Wildman Walker Out @ WEBN

Kinda makes you wonder what the future of WEBN will be. Could CC Cincinnati be thinking of blowing them up for a WLW FM simulcast?

With the number of rock music stations like EBN getting dumped for either talk or sports talk in the last six months, maybe they are next on the chopping block. It would be weird to have them gone and 96Rock be the only one left. Who would of thought that would've ever happened.

Have you heard Louden Wainwright III's new record? "Dead FROG in the middle of the road and it's stinkin' to high heaven!" Good luck to the displaced and reassigned team members. Thanks for da' memories!

Putting WLW on FM now is a bit late. They should have moved it to the forever-failure 94.1 back in '95 and left the sports franchises on 700.

WEBN was the last of its kind...an original 60s era rock station that managed to last forty years. The heritage is gone along with the stationality that had you wondering how they'd twist some normal event of the day into an innuendo. When was the last time some conservative group got mad and threatened them? That's when Frog left the building.

Actually, WDVE in Pittsburgh (owned by CC) is 42 years old, established in 1969. It is the No. 1 station in that market. Never understood why WEBN didn't adopt the DVE model once CC unloaded the Fox to Cumulus. Play enough currents to keep rock reporting status and not violate any non-compete it may have with Cumulus for classic rock and open up the playlist. Instead they chose to be a station trying to appeal to 18-34 year olds with a graying air staff.

the difference between 'dve and 'ebn is mike brown.
in pittsburgh, wdve has been the flagship for the steelers
network since 1998. one of the first fm's to land
and nfl franchise. 'dve also broadcast penguins nhl for
years, thought not now.
point being, mike brown would not allow bengals to be
broadcast on webn when the franchise initiated the tiplecast
on wlw, 1530 and at the time, wofx. 'ebn wanted the games...but
were shut down. a potential 'ebn/bengals deal years ago would
have had all the crap that comes with the bengals on-field reality.
they're not the steelers....but, for the male demos that 'ebn
covets...having those games when the bengals went to the playoffs
would have been a bonus; at that time the staff was in place and
had 'ebn been allowed to also carry the anciallary bengals programming
the way 'dve has, webn might not be more of a memory of an iconic
radio station than what it is today.

If you think that WEBN's fortunes are linked to the Bengals, you are incorrect. A few hours a week, 10 times a year, nights & weekends on programming that many watch on TV. Wouldn't matter if the Bengals were 16-0 or 0-16. I think they are getting "middled" by 96 ROCk & FOX, and the iPod/Pandora effect.

Agreed... WEBN has been going downhill for the past couple of years. Just because they do or don't have the Bengals doesn't make a whole hell of difference.

Programming is what it is... If you can't have a decent Program Director and Jocks with longevity and suits that don't want to hear what the audience wants..then what's the point?

ouuc ummmmmmm the bengels dont play 10 games a year. they play 16 regular Season games and 4 Peseason Games. if my math hasnt failed me yet. that 16+4 = 20 not 10 and im sure the bengals programing is like 1 hour of Pregame, 3 hours of Game time, 3 hours of Post Game thats 7 hours a week. 7 hours isnt a few hours 7 hours out of 24 hour day is almost a third of the broadcast day.
