Wildman Walker to Class X

ouuc said:
You can officially bury his radio career.

Gee- way to be optimistic there ouuc...No one says you have to listen. I think I hear an idiot on the air over on WLW in the afternoon... Yeah- Tracy Jones...maybe his tired "What is your weight" Schtick would suit you better...

Give the guy a chance before writing him off...

I doubt He cares after being on WEBN for over 25 years I think He can have fun with radio instead of working for The Man.

Right. But, he does have bills to pay.

Do they fund this station through their self published magazine?

Is part of it through the on air sponsors? If so, do these on air sponsorship mentions sound like regular advertising?

Do people donate money? That can't be getting a tax receipt for their contributions.

Microbob: If he doesn't care, then why has he been hounding his Facebook friends to contact FM 100 and tell them to hire Wildman.

The Fan has announced that they are launching an afternoon show in the future that's why. I don't care to be honest. Just wondering why you care so much about his career? Like the guy or not, He has been on radio and TV for a long time and has his fans in town.

Gee, Microbob..I don't give a rat's ass about him or his career. This is a discussion board. I just posted a reply to a post. Get the concept?

Track his career path. It's dead. Working there is like working at a college or volunteer station.

And you would know because you have been involved with ClassX, right? Don't talk about the station if you haven't been there before.

Would you say the same about Joel Moss and Jay Gilbert as well?

Sorry, but Clear Channel shot themselves in the foot because Moss was the creative force behind the fireworks soundtrack, and now the soundtrack will be produced by some hack that has no idea what the fireworks soundtrack entails. Way to go bean counters! Bean Counters unite! :-\

Walker has had a long career in radio, and just because he is not at WEBN doesn't mean his career is dead. In my opinion, the opposite could be said... WEBN has been dead since the early 1990s... The station is a former image of itself and Frank Wood has been turning in his grave for quite a while now.

Clear Channel has made a complete joke of the "longest running "Rock" station in the U.S. ::) :-\

2ndsout that's about the most clueless thing Ive read on here in a long time. You really have no idea what you're talking about. It did make me laugh, though.

Clueless in what way?

I guess you work for Clear Channel?

I've been involved in the business in Cincinnati for well over 15 years now. Thank you very much.

Really? You haven't picked up much understanding of how it works in those 15 years. You board opping at WMOH or something? Comparing EBN to ClassX would be an obvious error to anyone with a basic understanding of radio. Wildman is a great guy and I wish him the best, but ClassX is basically the Witness Protection Program of radio. Oh, and I love that anybody who disagrees with you MUST work at Clear Channel. No. I just happen to understand how it works.

What the previous poster said. ClassX is for people who do radio for a hobby. It's like WOBO or WAIF. I listened to Deters today, and he basically shills for himself. It's not a very professional show. I looked at their lineup, and you don't see any well- known personalities.

So, you think that WEBN is still a great station then? Yeah, okay. Sure. The same 50 song rotation really drives sales, I guess that is why WEBN let Walker, Gilbert, and Moss go- because we all know that hearing "Free Bird" and "Stairway to Heaven" an umpteen couple of hundred times a week really pays the bills, doesn't it?

Crap sells. Sadly everyone buys Crap nowadays.

Radio is as bad as Hollywood. No originality. At least with ClassX, I can hear music that was recorded by other bands instead of the same old 50 songs over and over and over again....

And that's because well known personalities don't work for free. The real stations are businesses that provide livelihoods to their employees. ClassX is a cool trimulcast run as a sideline by a guy who had the balls to do what all the radio geeks fantasize about, but it's not on anybody's radar as a competitor or an entity. Sorry. Truth hurts I know.

Did I say EBN is a great station? 2ndsout, you just don't get it. It's great that you can hear obscure rock songs on ClassX. Go for it. I will take WEBN's half a million listeners to ClassX's no show any day. That's the bottom line. You
give the listeners what they want. Not what YOU want.

Oh I get it. I choose not to listen to WEBN anymore because the station has SUCKED for years, as I mentioned in a previous post. Using your phrase of "The Bottom Line. You give listeners what they want. Not what YOU want."

Well- guess what? I don't WANT what WEBN continues to offer...the same lousy pathetic 50 song rotation of tired and played out Zeppelin, and the same tracks from Pink Floyd- who recorded MORE then just Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall...

When did the listening audience get complacent to listening to the SAME stuff OVER and OVER again? As a listener I don't want that. Maybe that is why ClassX has been fairly successful in what they have done because they CAN offer music, and PLAY REQUESTS (Really you ask... what are Requests....Clear Channel doesn't know what that phrase means....)

I'm just saying... ClassX is a decent alternative to the boring Corporate Radio crap. You can agree to disagree with me...I'm just offering my thoughts, that's all.

OK. I don't care what you listen to. I don't care what you or anybody else thinks of EBN. I thought we were talking about the business of radio.
By the way, radio stations have been playing what you call "the same crap over and over" since hit music radio was invented 50 years ago. Again, compare the audiences. That formula has worked for decades.

What's the over/under on Metallica songs Wildman plays, among the ten songs he'll play in his two-hour time slot?
