WILK-AM "New Format" Ad

Hi all,
I'm new to the boards.

I just heard an ad on WILK-AM today mentioning a "new format" or some such coming this fall.

Does anyone have any insight? I hope they're bringing some left-wing talkers to balance the over abundance of right-wing talkers.

Thanks in advance!

WILK has a "format"? What will they do; shuffle the deck? I can certainly do without Chia Kev and Mommy Kman. HEY!... LISTEN!... THAT HAVING BENN SAID... I'M HANGING UP ON YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!! That morning block is worse than "Dialing for News". Oops, sorry. That's a thread on another board. Where's Fred Williams when you need him? At least he was occasionally impartial, and has more than half a brain.

If it's what I heard, the "new format" promo you heard is merely a play on the new TV season acting like their shows on WILK are all new and wonderful. At least that's what I think I heard

I liked it better when they had the morning news (actual news, not people's opinions about it). I used to listen every morning. I know it was repetitive, but that was what was great about it. I could turn it on before I left for work, listen for 15 minutes to a half hour and get all the news I need for the day. Then they changed it to a morning talk format and you only get a few top stories every half hour. I stopped listening almost immediately. Then I started listening to WAZL because they had a good news segment every half hour. But they too jettisoned that in favor of a few brief top stories with no substance. WAZL has not been the same since firing Pat Ward. I don't know much about him personally, but when he was at WAZL, they were becoming a great local station. I rarely listen now.

Personally, I never much cared for opinion shows, left or right wing. Most of it is someone shouting over the guests or callers anyway. I'll form my own opinions about the news. I don't need Air America, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity telling me what to think.

Pat Ward did know about news. He was a good newsman. Unfortunately, he didn't know anything about running a radio station, how it ought to be sold, or what to charge for things. He thought a good news day out did a good sales day anytime. If Pat had been the manager for about two more months, WAZL would have been as dark as WFBS.

Mack, you are full of it! WAZL's billing was way over the top. It was providing a public service to the Hazleton community. The music format was geared to a wide spectrem of demos. Its news was not rip and read, nor something stolen from the Standard-Speaker. I know Pat. I know why he got screwed. Yes, he got screwed with no support from Rocky. Watch you back. There is always someone to do you over. Is WAZL better off now that Pat is gone? Absolutely not. Route 81 ran it into the ground, just as they are doing with WNAK, et al... Sad...

Ah, I see. Thanks for all of you that cleared that up for me. I guess the "joke" wasn't clear, because it's not a very strong delivery.

Phooey. I was really hoping for some new programing options, c'est la vie...
