WILK Steve Corbett

Anyone hear what's going on at WILK. I heard Nancy state this morning that they were setting up Steve's email account. Is Kevin or Sue getting the boot or are they dumping one of the national shows? Anyone got the inside skinny????

Is it possible Corbett will be the designated fill-in? I noticed Rob Neyhard's blog has disappeared from the WILK web site.

Barrie Singer's blog is also gone, not that either his or Rob's was updated that often. It will be interesting to see how they use Steve.

I'd say Corbett is on every time there's a hole. He gets promised as much airtime as possible which is what he wants while WILK was paying two guys and is now paying one.

If Corbett catches fire(and I am unconvinced he will), WILK will make room for him. Smart of them to use him heavily as a fill-in, give them time to gauge audience reaction without making any huge blunders. Judging by the lack of traffic on this thread, and the Corbett thread on Beale's Bites, I'd say Steve's return is being met with less than joyous celebration. Never being able to go home again ain't just a saying...

Let's wait it out and see. SC on the radio is not SC in the newspaper. He could well bomb, or having been away for a while and done other things, he might find a niche. While he may not be one of my favorite newspaper people (!), I haven't had the time to see what he's like on the air. For instance, I can't stand Andy Rooney on tv, but I think his writings are great.

Steve really wasn't all that bad, and it was a welcome change from the daily Kevin & Nancy drama. There was much lest nastiness, but Steve still had an edge. I'm not sure how Corbett will wear in the long run. Last week was a semi refreshing event.

Corbett gets on steady he'll wear thin fast but hey, that hasn't knocked Kevin Lynn out of the box yet.

Ah, but their is boatloads of wonderful talk around here, you just have to look upwards to the sky. Sirius, an injection of relief from the dead waves.

Corbett is really an odd duck. I remember seeing him at a function in downtown Wilkes-Barre around 1994 or so. On one hand he was making himself very conspicuous, but he would get very testy when someone would speak to him. It was like
lookatme, lookatme, lookatme DON'T LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!
lookatme, lookatme, lookatme DON'T LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!

There is not much "in between" with Steve Corbett. Either you like him, or you don't. As a writer, he was interesting. I often saw him at the scene of trials and tragedies, looking for a story. That's great. He is perhaps the only local columnist I've seen do that. Steve has an ego and an attitude. Either you can deal with that or you can't. As a broadcaster, he's pretty good, with an "everyman" quality. He's had some personal issues. Who hasn't? As I view it, more positives than negatives.

...so, what's your point, schmid? does he threaten you 13 years later? after all those years, you still remember that. huh!

I don't think the point is not about feeling a threat 13 years later. The observation was a valid "take" on someone who at the time and still is now a local celebrity. First impressions count. And if this was schmed's first look, and the guy was famous, then the memory of it should not be diminished, even after 13 years. We remember things because they make an impression. In this case, this was one of those first impressions.

Right Again, Yonk.

I really could give two sh*ts about Corbett---but the man I encountered that day was a complete opposite of the way he portrayed himself in his column. Frankly, I had forgotten completely about it until I read this thread.

The Yonk is an astute observer as is evidenced in his new book. Saw it at B&N the other day. Good luck, David.
