Will 107.5 Ever be sold?

Any chance this station will be sold? I hear it sounds pretty bad. Great signal though.

That was WGPR-FM when I was there from 1994-98. Who owns it? Are they still playing urban gold and African-American talk? The signal is very impressive.

WGPR is owned by the Masonics. I guarantee you it will take a miracle to get them to sell the Urban AC station, even with the ratings they have.

Probably as a tax write-off. Either that, or they're satisfied with running it as-is, until they're offered a sum that far exceeds its value. I don't see that happening with the mass sell-offs that are going on now.

Radio One needs to buy 107.5 WGPR and move the hip-hop format from 102.7 to 107.5.

I disagree with those posting here, WGPR has the most unique sound of any Detroit FM urban station. It has a long history as a "Detroit" urban. I remember it fondly from the early to mid-90s. I would hate to see it sold. Also, the ratings are actually higher than they were for quite some time. I think they are now near a 2, for many years they barely had a 1 and the owners weren't interested in selling then either.

Radio One better have a prayer if they ever get their hands on WGPR.

Radio One has finally got their hands on the 107.5 WGPR FM signal. I'm so glad.

They've had an offer or two, that i know of, back in the day....

No dice, then. Why would they sell, now? They are making $$ with it.

Radio One doesnt own it. Its a LMA that Radio One is paying the Masonics for. Its just a way to make their cluster bigger in the market. Radio One is in no position to buy any stations. They still havent got paid for the stations they sold in Charlotte NC to Davis Broadcasting.

as of a month or so back, Radio One has an LMA and programming agreement with the Masons. They are programming WGPR now. They have no reason buy it, nor do they want to. it's a more profitable and economically prudent scenario for them "at this time". They eliminated their competition and are now programming them. Personally, were i Radio One, I would buy it, and i'd start throwing money at Crawford until they sold me WMUZ 103.5. Giving me 4 flame throwing FM's in the market to lock up urban programming.
Everything is for sale if the price is right. But Radio One is too busy with their websites, print and TV One. They've sold off a number of stations, Dayton being just one many markets they've exited.

Crawford is not, repeat not, going to give up MUZ. It's just not going to happen. Religious radio stations are a license to print money. If Crawford sells to anyone, it'll be to Salem. They're about the only radio group with money to literally pay for it in cash. Then they'll spin off 1400. That's my take on it.
