Will 98.9 The Walk Die on Monday?

4) According Allaccess.com, the "The Walk" branding will be "integrated" into Kicks. Not sure what that means (http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/121652/98-9-the-walk-atlanta-flips-to-oldies ). Does this mean a Christian show? Kind of flies in the face with what Cumulus is doing nationally with NASH. Are significant changes coming to Kicks? That's about the only station that Cumulus hasn't touched in a while.
On 98.9 The Walk's Facebook page it says Kicks 101.5 will have "The Walk" on Sunday mornings.

That May be the reason why Atlanta managers chose TOC instead of AGH or standard Classic Hits. It would be a winning duo spanning 40 years

One thing I haven't thought of...what would BRENT, our favorite not-favorite oldies friend, be thinking of this. Or is the constant slew of periods above me, him?

BRENT or GoodTimesGreatOldies.

Of course, GoodTimesGreatOldies would be saying that 98.9 would definitely be hiring Randy & Spiff.

Where's "inside your head" now that alt is back on Radio 105.7?

Hopefully 97.9 will go back to a Journey type format or to soft AC. Variety would be good too.
Of the four formats I mentioned (classic rock, classic country, soft AC, and variety/adult hits) soft AC or variety hits would be the most viable.

Classic rock has too much competition, and classic country always sounds better than it works.

My preference would be variety hits or a harder classic rock that fits in between River and Rock100.5. If you're pulling a format off the bird, though, variety hits would fit better "off the rack".

The TOC is an awesome mix of music, they have a huge playlist, and they do not play the same 50 songs everyday. I have been listening since it came back on and have heard some tracks that I had completely forgotten about. Their will never be music like this again. Today's music completely sucks, they are not true artists today.

I love the format returning to the airwaves...but pardon me while I gripe...the sound quality is A W F U L. Not sure what kind of audio processor is being used (I'm guessing something basic) but could someone PLEASE turn down the gain reduction? The compressor goes into overdrive constantly, when I heard "Play that Funky Music White Boy" the sound turned into what sounded like a flange effect.

The music is great, the imaging is superb, but listening to what sounds like some Chinese Ebay transmitter being driven by a laptop computer with Winamp is painful. Yes, I know "it's just a translator" but a poor sounding signal will cause people NOT to listen. After all, in RADIO your product is SOUND. Not expecting 48KHz digital audio but not a "Mr. Microphone" either.

and the HD2 on 99.7 sounds like a mono 64Kbit MP3...I know they are not really feeding this to their translator are they?

WWWQ HD2&3 have always put out in mono. I gues they have reserved all of the bandwidth for HD1. W250BC on 97.9 sounds like a regular FM station and much better sounding than HD3.

You should have heard it when it was on 106.7!!! 98.9 is definitely an improvement.

Since it sounds better but not as good as it should, I am wondering how much of it is source. Also, I wonder how much Cumulus compresses the translator feeds to help them overcome noise in outlying areas (always an issue when you're only pumping 250W).

W255CJ and WWWQ (HD2) Oldies 98.9 sounding GREAT!!!!! By FAR!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so fantastic to hear the Good Times and True Oldies!!! You can listen to Scott Shannon right now and call 877-900-TRUE (8783) to request your favorite oldies song! While it's great to have the syndicated True Oldies national content back it's only a matter of time before Randy And Spiff are on Oldies 98.9. Don`t know exactly when it will happen, but it will!!! Both 98.9 and Randy And Spiff need each other. If promoted correctly, this could be BIG, really BIG!!! 98.9 can be a GREAT local, live Oldies station!! Remember the powerful history of Randy and Spiff and the Ultimate Oldies Concert? It has a very rich history in Atlanta and it can happen again! It is just the thing that Cumulus needs to do to improve its` local markets. Even as a translator 98.9 can be #1 45-64, older demos will make the effort to find and listen to Oldies 98.9 all the time! I don't know if J.J. Jackson and Mitch Elliot are available but there's talent like Steve & Vikki and Kelly Stevens who would be GREAT for the future of oldies in Atlanta!!! For the amount of resources Cumulus pours into that news station on 106.7, an investment into a GREAT local and live Oldies 98.9 would pay off BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's baaaaaack..... ;)

Of course, Cumulus could use someone else's satellite format...Dial Global has a BM/soft AC format as well as Jack, neither of which would be that duplicative of other formats in ATL.

Now the rumor is that Cumulus is looking at buying Dial Global, and possibly bringing back the Westwood One name.

First of all, with 98.9's limited signal there's no way it can make a BIG splash in the market. Therefore there won't be any local DJs, especially Randy & Spiff.
Second, True Oldies plays way too many 60's songs. I think 80% of the playlist is 1964-1974. 106.7 tried True Oldies and received poor ratings. Then they dumped True Oldies, went local, cut back on the 60s stuff, played more 70s & 80s, and ratings went up. Why did Cumulus go back to True Oldies again??? They should've stuck with what worked on AGH 106.7 before it flipped to All News. It's like they never make the right decisions...

True Oldies makes total sense for Cumulus. First of all, it's free programming. It will cost the Atlanta cluster electricity and tower rent but probably little else. Second, a fairly sizable audience has been clamoring for oldies. Yes, they are older and out of the agency buying demos. But True Oldies will attract a decent amount of ad dollars from local businesses, many of which are owned by baby boomers. Given the station is a translator with a small signal, it does not need to bill the kind of money a full-power FM does. Oldies 98.9 will be a win for Cumulus.

They seem to have launched with close to a full spot load...and not just network spots. Local spots like GT football, Tom Shane, Milton Martin Honda, and others.
