Oldies would be a great move by Wells. I'm sure currently he is going to fight the good fight, but in the end, he won't compare. I see Newsweb selling 92.7 to Polnet, to make the 1st Polish FM Radio station. There are more then enough Polish people in Chicago to do so.

Re: Polish-FM

Aside from JamTraxx Media, I've been personally involved in trying to secure (a) FM station(s) for the Polish community in Chicago. Unfortunately, the price is too prohibitive for even a wealthy group of Polish investors to consider at this point in time. The price was already too prohibitive when SBS purchased them for $22M (KIE/KIF/DEK), and Entravision for $7M (WRZA), and even more so now after Newsweb paid $50M+ for that same four stick array.

Besides, the revenue model for Polish or ethnic programming has always seemed to work on the AM, where the individual hosts have "leased the airtime" from the radio station and went out and sold their own commercials. With HD-AM around the corner, all the POLISH AMs will have good quality signals during the day that will amaze the community that these signals serve. If a POLISH FM were to arise anytime soon, it would ONLY be for bragging rights, given that the capital to purchase such a station was available. AM will not be the same within the next 5 years, so I think the importance of getting a Polish FM has diminished and is currently a non-issue. Their money would be better spent if they reinvested their profits to upgrade their transmitters, once the roll out and availability of HD radios is more mainstream. <P ID="signature">______________

According to Feder's Saturday column, Harvey Wells "bristled at speculation" of a format flip now that Infinity has picked up Jack. I think they'll stick it out for a few more no-shows in the ratings book. Then, who knows?

It would be an interesting move, with a lot of hype, but Harvey Wells would never go for it.

I doubt Energy will come back under Newsweb. Also, WKIF can't simulcast with WRZA because they cover the same area around Kankakee, which was why WKIF had to go to a different format.

As I've said over and over and over. It's il-fated moves like Nine, The allowing of Oldies to die rather than freshen it up and grow that cause PEOPLE to LOSE JOBS while upper management finds some new "research" that tells them "this is the new shining star format". Nonsense. It's management, it's cronie consultants and people who have no business running radio stations that are wrecking them and in turn ruining people's jobs. Funny how research is what leads all radio stations to change formats. While I always relied on research, it was never used to the degree it's used now. There's many things research doesn't show you. For that, you have to know your market.
