Today when I saw the new PPM results I couldn't believe my eyes. KLSX grew to #7 overall 6+ from 1,116,100 to 2,218,800. MORE THAN A MILLION IN ONE MONTH! :O
The new format launched only 2 MONTHS AGO and they're doing better than other stations that run rhythmic formats and this is after the 10,000 songs in a row promo.
KLSX is already #1 in teens! Beating out KIIS for the first time in a long time!
With the growth of the station going this fast, do you think KLSX will ever beat KIIS in the 6+ category? Why didn't any station decide to go Top 40 before KLSX? What do you think KIIS will try to do to stay #1? Why is KLSX improving its ratings so fast?
Wrong. The March ratings released today were not after the "10,000 Songs in a Row" promo. 3 weeks of the March ratings included that promotion.
They are not doing better than other stations that run rhythmic formats. KIIS, which as a mainstream CHR that favors rhythmic, is beating AMP as is Power 106.
KLSX is not number 1 in teens. They beat KIIS 1 week, the 4th week, in the March ratings.
Your entire question is way premature since AMP doesn't even have an on-air staff outside of afternoons and nights, weekdays.
It would be good if you got your facts correct. This isn't the first time and you've only got 10 posts.
I'm new to this radio board but you should not be trying to attack me personally. I've been in the industry for a while. I don't think you've seen the March reports for KLSX. I was talking about the 6+ RATINGS. Not the 18+. AMP is behind 2 competitors in the market. The 10,000 songs in a row promotion ended before these ratings were posted. The promotion ended 1 week after the beginning of March. You're the one that doesn't understand that! Why are you complaining about not having a complete on-air staff? That's the point to their growth. HOW MANY RADIO STATIONS GAIN 2 MILLION LISTENERS IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS? The only station that reminds me of is WFLZ back in 1989 when it over took "The Power Pig". Don't tell me that the station can't top KIIS in a few months. AMP is doing something different than other radio stations.
I certainly have seen the ratings for March. I posted many figures from them on this board before you even started this thread.
There is nothing amazing about the ratings AMP got. They have not zoomed to number 1 in one ratings period or won't in a period of 3 months. Many of us who have posted here for a long time have been calling for a new Top 40 station for years. AMP's early ratings don't surprise me at all.
Here's a question for you. How many markets HAVE 2 million people in them? KLSX hasn't gained 2 million listeners. You get that one wrong, too.
You don't even know when the promo end on AMP. It wasn't just after the first week of March. Check this forum as we have a record of the date and you don't have it right. Here's a clue: AMP went on the air on Friday, February 20 at 5 PM and the 10,000 Songs in a Row was expected to last about a month.
I posted all sorts of demos and 18+ wasn't one of them in the other thread.
Your "facts" are almost all wrong. Get them right or don't post.
I listen to AMP everyday, I would of course notice when the commercials would come in.
I got my data from ALLACCESS.COM which states that KLSX had a market share of 2,218,800 listeners. LA has a market of over 10 million people. (WHERE'S THE LOOPHOLE HERE FOR ME? BECAUSE APPARENTLY THE WEBSITE'S WRONG TOO RIGHT?) I guess you think you know more than the Arbitron does now huh? You go door by door to every house in LA seeing what they're listening? As far as ratings, how could you not be impressed that a station increased by the millions in a few months? For many stations it takes years to rake in listeners! AMP launches and they almost automatically (compared to other stations) hit the top 10.
You obviously don't listen too closely. I can even point to a webpage on AMP's site that shows that they were still doing 10,000 Songs on 3/19. Once again, the date that they stopped playing 10,000 Songs in a Row is IN this forum. You are NOT correct.
KLSX did not gain 2,218,800 listeners. Period. You just don't get it.
There have been a number of radio stations over the years, including ones that I've worked at, that have gained incredibly in the ratings when they switched formats or grew within their format by leaps and bounds in a short period of time. KIIS, Power 106, The Beat, Pirate Radio...to name some of the english language ones in Los Angeles. AMP hasn't gone from worst to first, so no I'm not impressed. It's exactly what I expected. It's not going from worst to number 1...that would impress me.
WHEN THE HELL DID I SAY THEY GAIN 2 MILLION LISTENERS??? I said OVER ONE MILLION! Last month, they had around a million and this month they had 2 million in the 6+! I EVEN POSTED THE INFO HERE! It happened and you don't wanna believe it, that's fine.
And obviously you don't know the real target of the station. The station was launched at the teen audience and the 18-34 audience. Don't you know that they have a certain amount of spending power now? Don't you know they're listening to radio a little more often? The station was launched to fill a gap for KIIS, to make a little more revenue. The teen listening is important now, the times are changing as much as you don't like to admit it. And as far as the Pulse, I posted that the station was going to launch that day because that's the info i received, don't try to attack me because that's what i found out online about the station!
You need to re-read your posts. You certainly did post it, in fact screaming so. "HOW MANY RADIO STATIONS GAIN 2 MILLION LISTENERS IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS?". Your quote and it is carried over into this post above.
Tell us how many advertisers buy teens vs. other demos?
As for Pulse 87 Los Angeles, there is no actual start date for the format. Mega Media Group is very proactive in sending out press releases. Prior to Pulse in NYC hitting the airwaves, they sent out press releases about the lease agreement in mid-November 2007, that they had signed a morning show (press release about two weeks later) with a start date (1/15/08 which was missed) and 5 days prior to the new format hitting the airwaves, they sent out a press release of the date they would (2/11/08). They missed at least 3 other dates that the format was to start from early January 2008. I'm sure they hope June 1 will be the start date and it may be but nowhere have they announced that it actually will be at this time.
I will take it that you agree on the other issues I corrected you on since you didn't refute them.
The station did GAIN 2 million listeners because this is a new format we're talking about! A new format is literally a new station. I mean new PD, most likely new air staff, most likely new demographic. You can say AMP is a totally new station from FM Talk and as gaining 2 million I meant people listening to AMP since the format switch (including those who carried over from FM Talk) because FM Talk and AMP are OBVIOUSLY different formats! I know you're going to try to fight with me that they're not and that the people listening to FM Talk would listen to AMP but these are most likely new listeners we're talking about in these 2 million. How many guys listening to Tom Leykis or Adam Carolla or Frosty, Heidi and Frank would listen to Lady GaGa, Britney Spears and Rihanna? THIS MUST MEAN KLSX HAS GAINED THE LISTENERS. Thus making it GAIN 2 MILLION LISTENERS.
AMP along with CBS is buying teens (while targeting 18-34) because of the huge advertising hole for this demo because of your "theory". Only one other station "targets" this demo, which is KIIS, thus allowing AMP to allow airtime for the advertisers trying to target teens. Plus, teens are beginning to spend more compared to past decades (according to CNN) and they are also listening and streaming radio more compared to downloading music (read this on R&R). Advertisers also see that teens are starting to drive (insurance, cars etc.), buying new styles for new seasons (clothing retailers, shoe retailers) and love buying cheap eats (fast food chains LOVE targeting youth groups).
WELL....is that good enough? Because it seems like you're gonna find some "flaw" in what I just wrote.
As far as Pulse 87, I could care less. I read the article on Radio and Records and I told someone about when it said it was gonna launch. What's the big deal here?
