Will AN106.7 carry Tech sports this year?

To my knowledge, yes. It would be good advertising for the station and they could be considered the main flagship, since I can't understand wy people would want to Listen to a football game on the AM band.

Sports is one type of programming that will work on AM. Until "now on 95.5" most of the UGA games were on 750 AM. In NYC ESPN LMAed a FM signal and actually went down 6+ last month.

Mean while WFAN AM goes up. 6+

I guess the sports folks would even listen to CB to get their team.

Seriously, IMHO: the die hard fan will put up with a little static.

Not all markets are the same but Merlin has proved in markets #1 and #3 in the spoken word formats, that content is more important than a FM signal.

I was wondering because football season is only about a month away, and no promos or anything on AN106.7 about carrying the games.

Now here's an idea: Could a station with an AM/FM simul (or no local teams at all) carry another team's games on the weaker signal or as secondary coverage as long as there's not a conflict (schedule or rights), and get meaningful ratings/sales? I'm thinking of smaller programs like Ga Southern or Ga State (although GStateU has Album 88 as a fallback option, similar to Tech using WREK for nonrevenue sports), or out of state programs with a large local following like Florida, FSU, Clemson, Auburn, or Bama. IIRC 680 used to carry Florida and/or Auburn when they were locked out of carrying Tech or UGA. How did that work out for them? Didn't someone used to carry Ga Southern? Could a station carry multiple schools on a split-schedule basis, contingent on time of scheduling?

Can someone call Tech and ask?

106.7 will NOT air Tech. No way, no how. The idea is that they are an "all news" station. At least for the 1st several years, they need to stick to that. I believe Cumulus will. Cant they put it back in 680? or is there a conflict there?

Tech was (and as far as I know still is) on 790. Part of that deal (struck by ISP or IMG whatever they call themselves now) was to also have an FM signal. Tech was adamant about having an FM as part of the deal, even threatening to put the games on WREK (not sure how that would work since WREK is a non-com). ISP got the deal with 790 and 106.7 when 106.7 was still owned by Citadel and had no affiliation whatsoever with 680/Dickey/Cumulus. I am sure that 790 would have an issue with Tech being on any other AM station, especially 680, until that deal runs out.

I could see Cumulus switching Tech to another FM, maybe 100.5. I could also see Cumulus bringing the whole deal in-house (680 + a Cumulus FM) once the deal with 790 is up. As we all know, 680 alone would work fine for day games with its booming signal but not so much at night. Tech basketball would work fine with the Braves, but there would be conflicts for Saturday baseball day games in September and hopefully October.

Well it cAnt air on 790 & 680.

Plenty of all news stations air sports (WCBS, the old WBBM, KGO, shall I go on....?)

I feel Georgia Tech stays on 106.7 till the contract runs out. Where else can Cumulus put it? I doubt that Cumulus will air Tech on 101.5 Kicks is in a battle with The Bull 94.9 and IMHO sports (especially GT) would drive non GT fans (especially Bulldog fans) to the Bull. IIRC this deal was done when Big League was LMAing 790. Now that LF owns Big League could they put it on 94.1? I know that lawyers are involved and most likely the night basketball games would put a damper on 94.1 or Q100's (Another Cumulus station) younger night time demos. I wonder would Journey "count"? I feel if Cumulus honors the contract, Georgia Tech will go on 106.7 this year. Remember WSB has GA sports so a lot of their winter nights programs are preempted too.

No they can't go to 680 now because of the deal they have with UGA now, maybe Q100 could be a possibility.Hopefully Nascar will return to Atlanta radio next year.

Can it be sold?? IMHO Several challenges:

Too much DW, (After a couple of races I lose interest then forget to tune back in for the ESPN / ABC part of the season.)

Every time I tune in a NASCAR race I see lots of empty seats. NASCAR just is not the same as was 10 years + ago. How many folks are as passionate (for or against) about Jimmy Johnson compared to #3.

Atlanta lost one of their two Sprint Races. AMS should take a page from the Falcons ownership. When the product was not that good, Arthur Blank cut ticket prices. People do like to go to sporting events just to watch, but a seat to see the whole track is very expensive.

I am glad that my financial future is not tied to NASCAR Radio.

680 only has a deal for the UGA coach's show and other non-PBP coverage, and Dickey puts UGA baseball on WFOM, IIRC. AM 750 and NOW 95.5 FM WSB have UGA football and hoops PBP locked up.

UGA isn't an issue with Tech PBP being on 680.

I doubt Tech will end up on 680/93.7. It would interfere with Braves baseball and their pre/post game shows. I'd say a likely place is 99X at 98.9 (assuming 99X stays at 98.9). They also broadcast the Hawks games.

Look at Cumulus San Francisco KGO-AM the News and Info station in the market has been named to air sports from the 49ers this season produce by Cumulus all-Sports station KNBR 680 am and KSAN 107.7 FM (Classic Rock Station in SFO)

Maybe 106.7 airing sports some of the time is not far off

Look at CBS O&O WCBS-AM all-news in NYC they air Yankees baseball to separate themselves from 1010 WINS another all-news station in NYC. Incidentally WINS has higher ratings in all-news over WCBS-AM in the NYC Market.

I just read the Tech 2012 media guide and they list AN106.7 as the FM flagship. The website still has the AGH logo, but the media guide has the AN logo.

I listened to 106.7 yesterday driving around and heard two commercials talking about Tech football being on AN 106.7 this fall.

I was soo happy to have an all news station that said they would always be there bringing me news, weather and traffic but now with GA Tech sports i will have no one to rely on for traffic when i go to and leave work every single commute. All News should mean all news not football. We have seveal sports stations that could handle play by play. I hope its only football but every single saturday between 3 and 4pm when i go to work traffic seems to be a mess on the connector and now i have to try to catch traffic from wsb who will likely have a bulldog game at the time tech is playing. by providing 6 traffic reports "24/7" 106.7 is providing a great service for those of us without m-f 9-5 shedules but to throw coverage out the window for tech sports is crazy. Maybe they are stuck in a contract and once it expires then we will get the news format 24/7. Plus remember when tech is playing here traffic will be even more of a mess and WYAY can not provide the service when its needed most on Saturdays. I have been so impressed with pretty much the whole operation since the beginning and it has been there for my commutes and now to kill the format for GA tech for several hours a week is stupid.

I would love that,It would be a lot easier to listen to GT football games
