Will Ann Curry succeed in getting Anderson Cooper's CNN slot?

CNN would replace their highest-rated host with someone who was fired from her previous job for low ratings? ???

CNN needs a shakeup, but they need to rethink their primetime programming strategy before they go out and hire new hosts. I think Anderson Cooper and Erin Burnett are fine talents, but Burnett seemed more comfortable and less formatted sitting next to Mark Haynes (RIP) at the NYSE. Cooper seems like he would rather do field reporting instead of interviewing Eric Erickson and James Carville again.

Piers Morgan is a bit of a different story: His ratings are consistently pretty low compared to the other shows on CNN. There are two problems with Piers Morgan Tonight:
1) Americans have been very slow to warm to Piers Morgan. I find him grating at times, and others would choose a less generous adjective.
2) Lack of topical promotion for his show. There are a some fascinating interviews on "PMT", but I only find out about them if I go channel surfing.

Ann Curry really just needs to stop. She is in a nice, comfy position at NBC after doing a horrible job as co-anchor of Today. I like her. I think she is a great reporter - especially in difficult, international areas...she excels at that. She was a great news presenter on Today. But she just wasn't a good co-anchor. Period. There has been a lot of blowback towards Matt Lauer because of the rumors that he fascilitated the removal. If he in fact did that...the point that seems to be lost is that he was right. He was likely looking out for the good of the show, which is his job.

Word is that Ann Curry is "begging" NBC to let her out of her contract to go to CNN. She shouldn't waste the energy. She should stick with what she is good at until her contract expires and then figure out where things are at. But I don't think I'll be watching her anchor anything again unless I'm looking for something to make me feel uncomfortable.

With that in mind, yes. She probably will end up taking over Anderson Cooper's slot.

NBC executives seem hell bent on making Ann Curry stick to her contract. Why, I have no idea. I can't blame Curry for wanting to leave her professional purgatory for a network that would afford her more air time and perhaps her own show.

Speaking of shows, Piers Morgan's ratings are so low because he comes across as a snooty SOB. Erin Burnett adds nothing to the CNN lineup. Anderson Cooper is probably the best that network has to offer.

Hey at least CNN isn't MSNBC. If that network went dark nobody would notice.

He should see a boost when Alex Jones appears on the show tonight...

Is it just me, or is Wolf Blitzer helping to drag down CNN? When he covered the first Gulf War 20 years ago, I thought he was great. But as a program host/anchor, he gets on my nerves with his endless, monotonous rambling. I CAN'T watch him. When he comes on, CNN goes off in my house.

I admit to watching CNN because MSNBC is too liberal for me and FOX is too conservative.

As for Ann Curry; one would believe that she (and her lawyers) are trying their best to break the contract with NBC so she can move over to CNN. It seems to me that NBC is being prig about this. After all it was the network executives who tossed her off The Today Show. So let the lady leave! Heck Amy Robach and Norah O'Donnell left NBC without all this fuss so why keep Curry if NBC isn't going to use her?

NBC is keeping Ann Curry corralled because they are bleeding profusely from the PR fallout since her dismissal. GMA is regularly beating Today in the ratings war (a war The Today Show has had a significant advantage in for decades). Granted, Ann is a better reporter than an anchor but the way her dismissal went down was classless and mean.

To let Ann Curry bolt to CNN now it would appear to the layman viewer that she was forced out. NBC at this point doesn't need that headline. Best to keep her to her contract just to keep her quiet.

Ann better hope that NBC doesn't allow her to go to CNN. Ann is better off staying with NBC as a backup reporter for as long as they want her. As for CNN, can anyone remember Connie Chung, Paula Zahn, or Campbell Brown???

If Ann went to CNN, I figure that we would see her on a new Morning Show that just happened to start at 7am Eastern. ;D

Only to you because the overall ratings of MSNBC says otherwise...

It wasn't her fault at all. Look at the hemorrhaging ratings on the Today show nowadays. Matt is more at fault than Ann could ever be with that show. I would have left NBC as well, but she tried to stay on to save face. It is an embarrassment and slap in the face the way they treated her. CNN needs to figure something out but I don't know about what they need to do because they are lackluster in programming choices nowadays.

Yeah, CNN has broken a few promising Woman anchor careers.

And if they actually have Curry on a new Morning Show... :'(

I have nothing against Ann Curry whatsoever - but putting her in to replace Anderson Cooper is a very BAD idea. I know his ratings aren't great, but playing musical anchor chairs (again) is not going to fix the problem. If they do this, their ratings will NOT improve.

When there are major news stories (elections, terrorism, natural disasters, etc.) CNN actually does quite well. The problem is - when there are NOT big news stories, most viewers in the evening hours would rather listen to opinionated news reporting (O'Reilly) or straight up editorializing from either the right (Hannity) or the left (Maddow). IMO, that's the reason CNN lags in the evening ratings.

Anderson Cooper has high name recognition, and high visibility - he also does segments for 60 Minutes. Like him or not, he's a much more important news anchor than Ann Curry.

This will throw Phillip Airtime into a tailspin but if Ann Curry wants a job that involves serious in-depth news reporting, why not try to land a gig with PBS?

This way Curry wouldn't have to deal with the corporate bean counters at the networks.

How much of a spike in ratings did MSNBC receive? Even if that network's audience has increased it comes no where close to what FOX pulls in. Not that I am a fan of FOX.

Actually, MSNBC have seen a significant one, 20%, in the past year alone.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/msnbcs-phil-griffin-on-60-black-audience-gain-in-2012-people-want-to-know-that-we-reflect-their-world/

Particularly with black viewers even after the election. The network has seen a 60% spike in black viewership alone in the past 12 months. MSNBC would be complete morons to change course considering the huge jump in their cume of overall demographics.

I don't think MSNBC even care anymore about FOX after this year end book. Fox has been hemorrhaging viewers in their primetime particularly with Hannity. The president of the network pointed out they are competing for 2 different audiences, but they are gaining steam quickly in their target demographic groups.
