Deal Keeps Atlanta’s Top-Rated Talk Host with Cox Radio
ATLANTA (October 11, 2005) – Neal Boortz, talk radio’s self-proclaimed “High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth” will remain firmly ensconced in his pulpit behind the microphone at News/Talk 750 WSB. Boortz has signed a new, multi-year contract that will keep him on the air for the foreseeable future. “I’m thrilled! I really enjoy coming here and doing my hours of hell-raising,” Boortz said.
For more than 30 years this attorney turned host has engaged, enraged, and entertained listeners first in Atlanta and now nationwide. Among Atlanta’s radio listeners, Boortz has finished first for 34 consecutive ratings periods. The Neal Boortz Show is syndicated on more than 150 stations with an audience of more than four million.
“I am privileged to work with as extraordinary a talent as Neal is,” said David P. Meszaros, vice president and general manager of WSB-AM. “No one breaks through on the radio like he does. His impact is clear and evident in our ratings and in our revenue success.” Meszaros said the term of the agreement is for several years with options for years beyond the initial term.
“I am delighted that we’ve retained such a top talent,” said Chris Wegmann, market manager for Cox Radio Atlanta. “Neal is one of America’s top radio hosts. He delivers compelling talk radio daily, and that’s not easy to do,” Wegmann added. In addition, the agreement means Cox Radio will continue to manage syndication of Neal’s show.
Boortz turned New York Times best-selling author this year with “The FairTax Book,” co-authored with Georgia Congressman John Linder. Currently in its eighth week on the The New York Times top 10 best-seller list, it endured two weeks at number one.
“If you only knew how easy this was for me and how good I have it right now,” said Boortz. “I work for the best radio station and the best radio company in America and I really enjoy everything that I’m doing in my life.”
