Re: Will Boortz & Howard return to Houston?...a commentary?
I for one think that political talk radio has seen its day and it's time to move on to something else. I don't know what the answer is but some fresh radio programming is needed to keep the medium alive or the public will continue to drift away to Satellite and Internet options. The downside is that general formats appealing to a large enough cost-effective segment of the local market are tough to find. I am amazed at how splintered the Hispanic market has become in Houston with so many stations appealing to roughly the same demos as general market stations.
Boortz, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage and even Prager, once able to arouse their gung ho followers and raise the ire of opposite viewpointers, are not fun to listen to anymore. I don't really care what they have to say anymore...do you?
And I'm tired of hearing the same 300 classic rock hits repeated ad infinitum...please check me out of the Hotel California! Frankly, the two bright spots out there are NPR news segments/game shows and Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour heard on XM.
Come on radio programmers....give us something fresh and exciting and not the same old hash. Otherwise terrestrial local radio broadcasters collectively might as well kill the power to their transmitters to conserve energy for more worthwhile endeavors.
Just to let you know, I am putting my money where my mouth is. I am not a programming genius but I realize that my 40 years of broadcast-related experience and knowledge are worth something...besides the two new internet streams I am about to unleash on the world in addition to Radio Bop, I have conceived and am developing an end-all blockbuster music format for terrestrial radio...stay tuned.
