Will Burge, T.J Zuppe fired from WKNR

Both have said it on Twitter, and it sounds like they didn't see it coming. Budget reasons? I think KNR is doing away from the 3 host shows.

As I've been posting for the past 3 or 4 years....radio in general, and specifically radio stations that depend heavily on local advertising is in many markets in serious trouble.

Businesses of all sizes have suffered because of the 2008 recession and flat at best economy. But, as much as anything, businesses have discovered they can promote their stores on websites, social media, youtube channels, and in-store much, much, much less expensive than advertising on radio, local TV, local cable, print.

It's not that traditional media no longer will work...it does...it's just on-line methods work as well, or better, is much better targeted, and costs a fraction of traditional advertising.

I know...I sold traditional advertising for decades.

A real shame...so sorry for the loss of real personalities not just at WKNR, but all over the US in radio. Watch out kiddies...local TV cuts are next. Pweh!

Michael Reghi gone as well. Agree about the advertising-it just seemed like a cluster at night with all the hosts-and having Grossi on board, not sure they needed Burge stationed out at Browns camp everyday just to phone in about whether Trent Richardson is practicing-with twitter, you get all that info right away.

Yet, Goldhammer is still there. Go figure!

Seriously, those three hosts will be missed on that station. Hopefully, The Fan or some other media outlet can pick each or one of them up.

I don't like seeing anyone fired or losing a job, but I don't see the two younger guys being missed at all. I never thought Burge was professional and Zuppe was OK, but neither one had me wanting to tune in to what they had to say. They will be replaced by someone cheaper and willing to put in even more hours. They won't be missed.

Roda will be missed unless the station decides to put ESPN programming on at night instead of replacing his show. Wouldn't suprise me if he gets picked up by 92.3. He would be an upgrade over some of their current hosts.

Reghi is better doing MAC games than his radio show, so he won't be missed.

You can't speak on behalf all WKNR listeners. All of those three, including one you don't like, had fan bases. You should see some of the comments on Twitter. Just type in WKNR and you'll see the reaction. Given, there will be those saying how glad they're gone, and there'll be those who are upset they are no longer on 850.

I feel bad for anyone fired from a job, but the night time shows were bad-KNR needs to get away from the young hosts who basically just read tweets and talk about the bumper music that they played. Goldhammer is beyond bad, but RBS still draws, so he is not going anywhere. I never enjoyed Reghi, Roda was always hit or miss for me-T.J Zuppe did a bit the other week about an intern sending an e-mail to Craig, and the bit just bombed.

As best I can figure, Je'Rod Cherry will probably move fulltime to RBS, The Hooligans (Hooley/Brinda/Dave Denatale) will expand an extra hour, and 850 will then go network from 7 p.m. on.

Now during football season, it won't be so bad due to the various Browns and Buckeyes radio network shows during the week, as well as high school football on Fridays, but after that...whoo boy.

Sounds like KNR wants to go all in with RBS and Hooligans as more mancave style programs and do the hardcore sports during network time as well as when Browns/Buckeyes games are on.

And perhaps the $$ KNR had to pay to get the Browns rights played a part here as well.

That is my guess about the money with the Browns radio rights. But, then I doubt Zuppe and Burge made much money at WKNR. I'd be shocked if they made anything north of $30K, including the overtime.

Roda probably made double that amount or close to it and probably got a cut from some commerical sponsors and/or live appearances.

My guess is some more changes on WKNR after 3pm coming soon.

Mike and Mike, RBS and Browns Daily will all remain unchanged. Everything else is a question mark.

ESPN Cleveland Sports Night isn't listed on the tabs anymore either.

As for Michael Reghi, I didn't see his name mentioned in the reports. Is he really gone too?

Isn't it odd that the station has made these changes even after they started airing Browns games?

Interesting to see who they'll replace with and how...if there's going to be replacements on the station.

I wonder if this will mean a bigger role for Matt Wilhelm, the former OSU linebacker recently brought in as a Buckeye analyst...perhaps trying to make a Dustin Fox out of him on a revamped "3 Deep"?

Or maybe making a "Hooligan" out of him.
