Will/can Howie affiliates pull away?

It could be a couple weeks, could be six months but we don't know what will happen with the Howie
situation--other than the fact that eventually he could wind up at WTKK. Well how does this make
his affiliates feel? They have paid to carry Howie Carr, not six months of Todd On The Howie Show.
(Similiarly 'RKO advertisers have expected to get Howie not someone else)

Will they pull away and air something else--and can they? (Are they locked into carrying the show for
a certain period of time?) One has already done so: WCRN replaced him with Hank Stolz.

Other stations include WVMT in Burl VT (could do Jerry Doyle again?), WNTK and WKBK in Lake Sunapee
and Keene NH, ME stations like WGAN Portland, WVOM Augusta area, and WEGP Presque Isle,
and elsewhere in the Bay state, Holyoke's WHYN and Cape Cod's WXTK.

Will they put up with six months of Todd or whomever is filling in? Or will this get settled quickly. They
are probably waiting for a few weeks to see what's up, but is there ANY chance Howie winds up
back on 3-6 pm at 'RKO? (Like if his appeals fail?)

Parting Shots......?

Didn't get to hear his closing moments on "Har-Kay-OH!" 'cause doze Mooroons had da game on, anyone hear any funny bot mots to Hatchet Face and Da Gnome in final closin' moments on da internets of Da Howie Carr Show! ::)

Howie's agent made sure HIS station wasn't left twisting slowly, slowly, in the wind. Looks like the "Inside Maine" weekend talk team of Phil Harriman and Ethan Strimling will become the next PM drivers at WGAN. There's a 'big announcement' scheduled for tomorrow morning after the 8AM newscast.

I loved Howie's analogy to baseball - about wanting to play for a better team and bat in a better line up. That's really what drove Howie out of RKO - their inability to put better people on the station. Plus, I think he got fed up with the lack of marketing for the station. And how many new sales people and managers do you think he's seen come and go since he's been there. I'd say the over under is around 200 and counting. It's no fun playing on a loosing team.

Pahigian, eh...so WGAN would make two lost affiliates of the Not Howie Carr Show Network. I'd expect
others like WVMT to follow suit...would WHYN and WXTK, his other two affiliates in MA, want to sit it
out and expect Howie to fold or do they intend to make other plans?

I expect the network to crumble. I was told that Entercom never made money on it, it was a vanity concession to Howie that was more trouble than it was worth. Still, too bad for the Howie listeners in the other markets. Maybe something can be resurrected once he's done reflecting.

Yes...note that Entercom tried to increase fees and some stations dropped him over it (WVMT,
WKBK, both of whom picked him up again). Howie was syndicated for awhile by ABC Radio Today
then by SuperRadio and finally by Entercom. At one point there were affiliates in places like
Seattle (Entercom's KIRO-FM, now country as "the Wolf"), Salt Lake City, Ohio, Maryland,
Florida, Albany NY (WROW IIRC), etc. One reason he may not have been successful is the
regional stuff like Menino; another is he's up against Hannity (and Jerry Doyle and other hosts,
or stations preferred to have their own local hosts)

Racoon's remarks are right on the money. Howie's draw is strictly regional and pretty limited to New England. In that region, his show is a good draw and has done pretty well in places like Western Mass., Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. However, the present situation makes syndication untenable. Having "The Howie Carr Show with Todd Feinburg" or "....with Colonel David Hunt" syndicated is a waste of everyone's time and money. Those shows aren't even a good draw on WRKO, let alone other stations down the line.

I'm sure that the remaining "Howie Carr" affiliates can't bail out fast enough at this point. Particularly with the uncertainty that is presently in the air.

WGAN won't replace Howie with Strimling and Harriman. They can't. The announcement was that Strimling is leaving WGAN to run for Congress.
