Will CBS concede defeat to CC on Hot AC

We all know that in the last few years Alice@973 has morphed into a Hot AC format..The other Hot AC, Star 101.3 is'nt exactly a ratings success, but comparing it to Alice@973, Star is a advertisers dream..lol

I was just wondering when CBS is going to concede that boring format to Star and flush that turd (Alice) down the toilet...The playlist mirrors Star, and their morning show is boring....I won't get into their other dismal stations, but if CBS's only decent station (ratings wise) is a AM news station, then perhaps they should think about re-shuffling some formats...

CBS should make 97.3 a Rhymthic AC like Movin but with none of todays hits!

My guess is that any strategic research study done the Bay Area would not find a format hole like that one. It would just divide the measly share even further. The Movin' in LA is a 70's 80's mix without currents and draws a lower share than KFRC or KMVQ and that's with Rick Dees in the morning. ::)

OOOuch, thats tough...Allthough I would say that Rick Dees is way past his prime, He could fit on a Jack_FM, but I would even think 70's and 80's dance would be too hip for him to handle..lol

Just like there is no room for another Rhythmic/CHR like 94.9 or KMEL....So I guess MOViN is doomed..

KMEL is a urban station! KYLD is a pop/rhythmic/chr/top 40 station

Both stations play a boatload of Hip Hop and R&B, so yes there are familiar aspects...

How many listeners do you think know the difference between an "urban" format and a
"pop/rhythmic/chr/top 40" format? My guess is most folks' station preferences are a lot like the
stereotypical comment on art: "I know what I like when I see it." I can't imagine someone
waking up in the morning and looking for a "adult contemporary/rhythmic/classic latte/half-
decaf/hit radio station." Rather, they're going to punch up "something they like." For as long
as format labels have been around, I've seen them confuse commercial broadcast programmers
more than anyone else.

Top 40 stations and CHR/Rhythmic stations have been sharing tons of music since the late eighties; after KPWR went from non-existent to #1 at the expense of KIIS here in LA within a year in 1987, lots of top 40 stations either bailed from the format or started loading up on rap & hip-hop music as KIIS did.

Definitely a far cry from KYA & KFRC sharing music in the sixties and seventies, as well as KHJ, KFWB & KRLA during that same era.

Agreed, Marv...the last "Bay Area" station I know of that gamely tried the
"traditional" Top-40 format was Healdsburg's (Santa Rosa's) KHTT 92.9, "The
Heat" (now KFGY, Froggy 92.9 Country) in the late-1980s/early-1990s. It was
a game effort, and the personalities were good...but mixing the rap music with
Michael Bolton just didn't work, as the PD whose name I've long-forgotten
mentioned in the "PD" (Press Democrat newspaper) following the format change...

call me crazy but hasn't ALICE always been HOT AC ? i dont remember it ever being different, used to aim more at women yes, but it has always been considered hot AC.

I think that Alice should just go to Top 40 already. Something. or Star should just go Top 40. Have Wild lean more towards its Hip-Hop routes and KMEL more towards its Urban routes and it'll fit right in and blow Movin' outta here.

that sound good except for one thing: Keep Movin! Movin would be better if it played more 1990s and early 2000s Hip-Hop and R&B and with less currents.

There is people my age (14) that listen to Movin 99.7 and like older songs.

^^^I really don't see how you can have 70's/80's disco/dance gold rotated on a playlist with Timbaland,Fergie, and other current artists. To me thats a major train wreck....It's cool if it's in the MIX, but not for normal programming..

movin and kiss fm do that

KLLC is still "Modern AC" according to Arbitron. BDS it and compare to STAR. STAR represents more of a variety or "mix" position
