Since the two major players of urban radio (Service and R1) have not had a single station in the top ten listenership for two years now, I think CBS should try its hand at urban radio again. They did have KRBV and it did well for itself but the tower collapse of the late 1990s robbed 100.3 of its longevity and ratings and format. But with CBS having powerhouses in WVEE Atlanta and WPGC Washington, DC, they can replicate their success in DFW again. And 107.5 would make a good candidate; it manages to cover the Metroplex very well despite having a 16kw stick (as opposed to KKDA and KBFB both on 100kw sticks). And it can be dayparted to where it would be R&B and soul heavy since people in South Dallas are stuck flipping their antennas on their boomboxes around to pick up KRNB and KSOC. That can give the core audience in that side of town in particular some urban AC music on a strong signal once again in 10+ years. With KBFB, KSOC and KRNB respectively running Smiley, Harvey and Joyner, this will give the audience a second option for local AM Drive to take on KKDA, since CBS does not specialize in syndicated morning shows. But it wouldn't hurt to add Michael Baisden to the PM Drive since KSOC dropped him last year when they fine-tuned its format to oldies, and WBAV Charlotte and WUUB Palm Beach have him.
It would make sense in my opinion is CBS DFW gave it another chance. It would be much needed since DFW urban radio is suffering real bad, and I would hate for it to go the way LA, Boston, Tampa and Pittsburgh did, whether it would be flipping formats or going pop-heavy-rhythmic to stay afloat in finances.
