Will CBS turn their attention to WBZ-AM now?

With the station shuffle completed, WBCN retired to HD and the net, and WBZ-FM “The Sports Hub” launched, do you think CBS will do anything with WBZ-AM?

Last night I was listening to the 9 p.m. Newsbreak and IMHO it was pretty sad seeing they bill themselves as “News Radio”. I noticed that they have new top of the hour IDs that states the news watch never stops on WBZ-AM, WBZ.com and WBZ-FM HD3 before segueing into CBS news. At 9:03 there was traffic on the 3s followed by 2 minutes of commercials. Then Jack Williams from WBZ TV gives a total of 4 news stories with the last story just a teaser to what’s coming on Channel 4 at 11 p.m.

If CBS has the money to spend on the launch of a new FM sports talk station with live local talent from 6 a.m. to Midnight, the least they could do is have a live body in the news room on WBZ-AM 24 hours a day.

At least then when they state, “Where the News Watch never stops”, it would actually be true.

Couldn't agree with you more, because WBZ-AM is now just a shell of its former self. Even the news broadcasts during the day lack the quality they once had.

True about their microscopic newscasts at night. Cost cutting--and maybe they figure during those hrs most people can get their news via TV or online.

Do they really ID their website stream before their HD Radio channel? Usually, it is the other way around. With HD Radio not nearly as prevalent as the web, let's hope this is the start of a new trend in legal ID's...

The last straw for me was when they started the top-of-the-hour news almost a minute past the hour thanks to a barrage of commercials. That happened semi-frequently, and it was then that I realized that this whole 'News Leader' thing was a giant farce. Practically everything WBZ does has a sponsor; everything is 'Brought to you by...' someone.

I don't begrudge a radio station for wanting to make money, but don't you begrudge me when I tune you out after realizing that's all you want to do.

Well, I hope that one day our station is so disliked by some on this board that it ranks SECOND (12+ according to Arbitron), like WBZ-AM does right now.

K~

Well said, because as long as I can remember they were ranked first, and that's a big WERE.

Not to worry. I can't think of any station that wouldn't gladly make that trade off.

Ahhh...as singularly myopic as you typically are, you're completely dismissive of the fact that I represent a collective 'me,' comprising thousands of similarly disgruntled listeners.

That's OK, though. I wouldn't expect you to grasp a nuance like that.

But, 'Regards' to you just the same.
