It was a nice "old-fashioned" half-hour newscast to end it for Natalie with herself (solo, as it should be, without Ed Harding), Dick Albert, and Mike Lynch holding down the broadcast.
29 years after he first came to WCVB, Dickie said "Natalie, for your final newscast, I finally got the forecast right."
Mike Lynch (along with Mike Dowling on tape with Red Sox co-owner Larry Lucchino) honored Nat with her own "high-five". They arranged for Natalie to be able to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming Red Sox game. And Lynchie had some nice words calling Nat everyone's "mentor, mother, friend..." etc etc
And Natalie herself had some final words during a very emotional last couple minutes (nearly breaking down a couple times) as she thanked all of us for inviting her into our homes (You're welcome, Nat).
I was sort of expecting, during the last minute or two, for the entire staff to show up behind her along with some of the old-timers like Frank Avruch, retired chief meteorologist Bob Copeland, and retired sports anchor Don Gillis but it was just Natalie as the camera panned the studio and faded to black.
Classy end for a classy woman.
