Will Chicago Ever Rock Again!!

I was Hoping Wckg would flip to rock, because of stories i read that cbs regiter 105.9 the blaze and 1059 wmet. That did not happen. I am wondering will somebody flip to rock to fill a void and have a rock war in town. I have just bought xm for my rock fill for now a trial subscription. Any t houghts

P.S The Loop is really boring. I was out of town in Michigan The Riff Rocks 10 time better than the loop.

Patience.

Your wish will come true once the PPM hits Chicago. Expect a rock war next year.
Just look at Philly and Houston. The PPM actually records that guys like rock music.

Better yet, keep buying rock releases and help the artists stay alive until the change happens.

Rock stations can't rely on PPM. Rock stations rise by default because other stations drop, not necessarily because there are more rock fans.

"Rock stations rise by default because other stations drop, not necessarily because there are more rock fans."

Really! What research are you quoting, fishbreath?

Rock stations have sucked wind over the last decade in major cities because few male rock fans 18-34 would sit down and fill out a freakin' diary. Just wasn't going to happen. Therefore the non-passive male listener was never tabulated, their habits were never posted by Arbitron and the rock stations stopped being supported with resources by radio companies and record labels. Think about it, what are the biggest money making tours? Rock bands!

The biggest gains since the PPM was instituted in Houston have been made by KTBZ (rock) and KKRW (classic rock) while the #1 soft AC KODA has been bleeding men. Did those guys suddenly stop enjoying listening to soft rock and start loving the new Foo Fighters and Springsteen or did Arbitron rob us blind of millions of dollars by measuring just the lonely, sensitive, soft rock male listener using their "dear diary" system while undermeasuring the guys rocking out that will never, ever fill our a diary?

Not convinced? Oddly enough, WMGK (classic rock), WMMR (rock) and WRFF (alternative rock) rank 5,6,7 in Philly in the most recent PPM 12+ ratings report beating out many formats that used to have good numbers. They're starting to make a lot of money.

What exactly are the most recent 12 + rank of WDRV, WKQX, WLUP and WXRT?

WDRV: 12th
WXRT: 18th
WLUP: 21st
WKQX: 26th

The PPM becomes currency in March 2008 for Chicago.
Write the current ranks down and revisit them in one year and see the difference.
It's not about actual listening. It never has been. It's about beating Arbitron at their game.

Now you! Back to the Christmas music! Pronto! What are you? A Pagan?

I agree with inTIMidate on this one. Once ppm is installed in Chicago rock stations will do better ,I know a lot of people who like
real rock and we listened to both 96.7 and 94.7 all the time yet they never really made a dent in the ratings, I think the stations
to watch are 96.7 since FRESH put on the same exact format they currently have and they also own95willrock in Kenosha which
is very popular in the northern suburbs of Illinois and southern Wisconson.and WLIT because unless they go back to really being
LITE like they were about ten years ago they really do not have a format once santa goes back to the north pole.

Very true, PPM is a much better method to capture rock listeners' habits. It will be fascinating to see that first book in Chicago with PPM considering how dismal the ratings have been for most of the rock stations in the market the past few years.
