Will Clear Channel issue a C&D Order to WXCT AM 990?

Spanish Radio station WXCT 990 AM is in the number 10 preset spot on one of my walkmans. I've been listening for the past 20 minutes and instead of IDing as SuperMax 990, they've been IDing as POWER 990 with liners including "More Power Music POWER 990" and "The Best Music. POWER 990".

Clear Channel's 104.1 is still POWER 104.1 so I wonder if they will issue a C&D Order to WXCT.<P ID="signature">______________

They might. However, if "power" isn't trademarked, I'm not sure fi there's much they can do.

Something is going on because I saw mention of Supermax and the spanish format on 1480AM.

Maybe WKND should do the same to CC, weren't they using "The Power 1480"?
 
Evan, buddy. It doesn't matter whether or not "POWER" is trademarked by Clear Channel. I think they can issue a C&D because I don't think you can have two stations in the same market with the same slogan or moniker. WPHH and WXCT are both stations in the Hartford Market. There is no Waterbury Market any more. WPHH's studios are at 10 Columbus Blvd. in Hartford. WXCT's studios are at 3 Consitution Plaza in Hartford.<P ID="signature">______________

In the rare times I've heard WKND when they were on 1480, I never heard them ID the station as "The Power". I only remeber heraring them ID the station as "1480 'KND", or "1480 WKND - Hartford' Adult Music Mix". And now as WNEZ with a gospel station 1480 goes by the moniker "GOSPEL 1480" and also "Heaven 1480". I've actually heard them use "GOSPEL 1480" over the air. The only plave I've seen "Heaven 1480" were on two different websites.<P ID="signature">______________

Are you sure that Southington is clustered with Hartford/New Britain/Middletown?

They haven't used it in years I guess (I don't pull them in much from where I am) I do know they were using it in the 80's

No, because honestly, nobody in the 104.1 age group has heard of AM 990...heck most younger demos don't listen to AM radio period. Stop making such a big deal about a station that isn't a big deal. CC doesnt care about some low powered AM station that doesnt even touch the ratings books. Not trying to be an ass, lol. Just being blunt. :)
 
Well when I was interning at WXCT when they had the news/talk format, we refereed to the station as Hartford's new home of Dr. Laura.<P ID="signature">______________

Ya know..I had to take a while to calm down before allowing myself to be baited with this. But I have a valid reason for responding. WXCT AM 990 is the ONLY station you degrade. For someone who seems to think that small AM's are a waste of bandwidth, if 840 or 910 or 1120, or 1230, 1320 or 1480 are ever mentioned, you don't say squat. BUT you ALWAYS have something to say about 990. What IS your problem?

I sometimes enjoy your point of view. You occassionally have a decent outlook on radio. BUT you always lower your intrinsic value when you comment on 990. Really, what IS your Problem with 990? <P ID="signature">______________

Ha, I'm not degrading it at all. Heck I don't degrade any station, they all have their purpose and use. You respect competition and non competition for their efforts because everybody is making a living. I never talked about AM 990 until now so I find it hard to believe you see I "always" talk about it. Maybe you're confusing me with someone else. I only asked why such a big topic was brought up about a station that doesnt advertise or make a book. No degrading. Just asking. What's happening with 990? I believe my outlook on radio is fine, I'm just blunt. No BS. Keep in mind I work in the business side of the industry. Would explain it a little. Thanks :)

Doesn't advertise? WXCT has been a part-time Spanish language radio station since May 2004 going full-time last August. And in that time I've seen WXCT advertised on WRDM Channel 13, which is Hartford's affiliate of the Telemundo Network, which is the #2 Spaish Language television network many times. Though it had been several months since I've seen them advertise.<P ID="signature">______________

They've stop advertising a couple of months back. Paul Nuñez who along with Hipolito had an advertising contract with Telemundo left to Puerto Rico. Hipolito now is running the show and he doesnt like Telemundo that much.
