Will Columbia get a second CHR after the holidays?

Does anybody think that Citadel/Columbia had jumped on the Christmas music early in order to flip one of their stations to CHR and take on WNOK? CHR is hot right now and WNOK isn't the same station that it was years ago, let alone the fact that Columbia has been a one-CHR market since the late-lamented WYYS dumped CHR for Country back in 1991!

Just something to think about...

I doubt it, Robyn. Magic 98.5 has a lot of revenue and strategic value. It is what protects the upper end of B106.

If I was a betting man I would say no... I think OMG is doing Christmas music because it gives them attention and might give them a ratings boost... I am sure they are hoping that if people like the Christmas tunes that they will stick around, but only time and ratings will tell... CC1

92.1 or 94.3 should have tried CHR, IMO.
WWNU "New 92" would be a great name if they did.

I'm just glad someone in Columbia cares about good music, even if it's not quite what I would enjoy if I lived there. And I haven't had a lot of luck lately picking it up here.

CHR hot? Not seeing that. County has the most listeners & PPM data points to a resurgence in rock.

I don't see a resurgence in "rock" since there is no longer such a format. It's been fragmented at least for the past 15 years. Columbia will not be PPM for at least a couple of years.

At this point, Country and CHR have the largest shares with the market all to themselves in the format.

"Alternative Rock" formatted stations are still dying most PPM markets because the programmers have no idea which direction the format is going, just as "AOR" formatted stations died because the programmers had no idea which way the public was going and the traditional AOR product dried up.

This is a terrible time right now to be a Rock/Alternative station.
