Will Crawford fire up WDCD before Monday?

With some interesting on-air, the station could be memorable, profitable and a tribute to radio. Sadly, those of advanced age and lacking imagination and testicles dunno any better.

So what would you propose to put on the station ?

cs1366 has put successful formats on many stations in his career. Crawford would be well served to give him a chance to program a successful format on 1540.

Traveled thru the land of the once-Mighty 1540 earlier today and......it is indeed on the air and simulcasting the religion format from 96.7. And it is not transmitting IBuzz.

Traveling along the Coast of Maine at night, I hear KXEL killing WDCD. Should be the other way around.

I'm pretty sure that DCD is not operating at 50

That is what I thought but if they are broadcasting at low power, they sure haven't applied for an STA from the FCC. At least not the last time I checked.

Poster earlier asked "What format do you suggest ?, or words to that effect.

WXEX in Exeter,NH which operates on 1540 and 92.1 has the perfect format, which should be implemented by the new owner of 1540 in Albany....Classic Hits.

I especially like the way they present it,including what music they choose to select.
You can sample the music mix of their iteration here

I've tuned in a few times over the last month or so, and haven't actually heard a legal ID for 1540. Am i missing something? I hear the legal for the FM at the top of the hour, but that's it.

Programming this station... if I were to do it, Talk during the day, oldies off the hard drive at night to keep costs down. Local morning show, perhaps a local PM drive show, Alex Jones 12-3, Phil Hendrie 6-9... heck, there's plenty of product out there that isn't available in this area. Heh, maybe even try to steal Savage away from 1300, which is recorded here anyway (and thanks for airing the same show 3 times last week Paul, really, thanks lol). Rumors are Art Bell is entertaining offers for a new gig... his show always got numbers, and was infinitely better than what Coast to Coast is today. No reason in the world why this station cant be earning it's keep, even on the right side of the AM dial. Just have to get the current management out the of way first.

(personal opinions of Jones aside, he's the only one to put a major dent in Rush's numbers in that timeslot in markets running his show)

If I were to program this station, I'd put on a lineup of progressive talk. I have a hard time believing that a heavily Democratic capital of one of the bluest states in the Union doesn't already have a steady diet of left-leaning talk shows, and I have just as hard a time believing that local liberals can get everything they need from Alan Chartock. But hey, I'm just a listener, what do I know?

The question about Crawford's asking price is pertinent. One wonders if the "aggressiveness" with which Crawford is trying to shop the station refers to simply the persistence with which they're looking for a buyer or whether it extends to the price as well. Also, how many potential buyers would be willing to take on a standalone station, and does Crawford really want to operate 96.7 as a standalone? They may be forced to sell both stations just to get a deal done.

Oh, i'm sure he'd sell both.

Liberal talk is an audience detractor.

Sure, because the "Hosts" think that getting on the air and saying death to conservatives is funny and entertaining. They lack the ability to drive a point home with levity. They are so full of hate, it just oozes through the listeners speakers.

The same could be said in reverse with regards to the god awful conservative syndicated hosts that occupy WGY! Sad too...WGY was at one time time...a rather classy station.....

WAMC, the very well established NPR affiliate and being a top 5 station in this market, would pretty much shutout any lib-talk effort in this town.

And looking at numbers from the other end of the state, WWKB, 50kw at the right side of the dial... sub 1 shares 12+ with progressive talk. Downright dismal numbers to try and sell.

You make a good point about the NPR stations. They do not do flaming lib talk and that is one of the reasons why they work.

I wonder if anyone, with a commercial band station, has ever tried to do NPR with commercials.....

HMMMMM...
