Will Cumulus Renew Savage's Contract?

10 million people a month listen to his podcast, so obviously people want to listen to him.

You don't. That's OK. You don't have to listen to him. You have lots of other choices.

I am one of those people that has listened to him for years. I download his show 5 days a week. I only listen to his entire show once a week. I click to the next podcast on my downloads when he starts attacking other talk show hosts.

It's interesting how we all, self included, use terms that no longer reflect reality... like "tape delay".

I wonder how many Millennials know what "tape delay" means.

I considered the audience before typing that term. You are correct though, it is an anachronism, but I do believe what I intended to communicate was properly conveyed.

Does Ben Shapiro really talk that fast or is the CummLess station here time compressing him?
Savage has not been on the air in Atlanta (CummLess' home market!) since his affiliate WCFO was sold to a religious broadcaster.
Surprised somebody didn't pick him up by now since he's in the top 10 of the Heavy Hundred.

Here is an update Savage will have his hours cut due to Ben Shapiro

Westwood One is shaking up its weekday afternoon Conservative Talk block in January 2019.

Michael Savage’s “The Savage Nation” will cut back from three hours to one hour daily from 3-4pm eastern while Ben Shapiro takes over the 4-6pm slot.

Cumulus launched Ben Shapiro on six stations in April including a live clearance on 770 WABC New York and delayed clearances on WMAL Washington DC, WLS Chicago, WYAY Atlanta, and KABC Los Angeles. The live show will be separate from Shapiro’s daily podcast.

It is that daily podcast/live broadcast model that Savage will switch to. He will host the daily afternoon show as well as a separate daily podcast in January.

Wow that's a huge change, and really demonstrates the rise of Shapiro's stock in the conservative talk world. He's become a favorite commentator at Fox News. The podcast keeps growing. It certainly helps that he's a lot younger than Savage. But you have to wonder if Savage will stick around much longer.

I don't know if this means Savage got a renewal for less money or this is how Cumulus is riding out the balance of his contract. Shapiro's show is quite uneven. Cumulus tried to claim some of the 12-3 slot with Mike Huckabee and didn't get much there. Shapiro is likely to do better than Savage is, but I doubt it'll be much of an impact.
