Will CW shut down?

I'm gonna guess not for at least another five years since most CW stations are half way through their 10 year affiliation agreements but it's target audience is increasingly fragmented.

KTLA here in Los Angeles can live without the CW. I think their news programs get higher ratings than anything on the CW. 90210 sucks balls it was good during the first season. Gossip Girls spark is gone. Thank god they are ending Smallville. They killed it moving it to Friday. Top Model is just another waste of airtime. Even the Saturday morning kids block sucks. Only for people who dont have cable.

So they took two non profitable networks and turn it into one big non profitable network. I dont know any women that even watch that network. Im guessing the studios make the profit. Hate to say it Bravo has better shows LOL ::)

I personally thought WB was the better network. CW has nothing worth watching, & don't bother watching this network in primetime. WGN-TV can also live without CW. Besides, they'd rather not have to farm out their sportscasts to WCIU in primetime. Also, not all markets have a CW. If a market is lucky enough to even have CW, it might be on a subchannel instead of a main channel. Grand Rapids Michigan is the only top 50 market that has CW on a subchannel.

But then again, you and I are not CWs target demographic, but how many 12-34 year old women do you know that watch CW?

If and when CW does shut, what would replace it? WB & UPN killed first run syndication that aired on these stations and local sports continue to go cable only?

You answered your own question.

Bring back first-run syndicated programming!

Troll alert. Seriously, there's no news here. No one suggesting the network would shut down. So why ask the question? Why not make it NBC or ABC?

I agree that the WB-UPN marriage was odd/forced/unproductive/worthless. But unless you are a 13-year-old female, the CW isn't all that interested in having you watch.

Haven't those who produced first run syndicated shows moved to cable?

But does anyone think it will be around when the affiliation agreements that were signed during the WB-UPN merger expire?

They merged because their affiliation agreements were about to expire, their target audiences (teenage girls) were shrinking and increasingly fragmented, and neither was profitable. But networks aren't the in business of producing anything worth watching. CW will probably stay on as long as its profitable but is it currently? A 13 year now has more entertainment options than a 13 year old in 1999 during the prime of Dawson's Creek.

The WB was starting to go downhill right around 2004. None of their sitcoms were ever big hits. Only one I could think of was Reba. All the other shows lasted in syndication maybe 2 or 3 years. The only night UPN focused on was their monday nights of black sitcoms. They had minor success. Enterprise had minor success too. Top Model was okay at first but now its dull. Even Smackdown started to lose its buzz espically after The Rock and Stone Cold left the WWE. Those networks last seasons flopped big time. I say we are better off with just 4 networks like the good old days.
