Will Dave get Fresh?

Since CBS just flipped 105.9 to the "Fresh" format in Chicago and Fresh 102.7 is gaining on Lite in NYC, is it possible for CBS to flip Dave to the Fresh format in Atlanta...especially with how over-saturated the rock market is now? B 98.5 and Lite 96.7 are the only AC stations in the metro area and the 96.7 signal doesn't penetrate the north metro well. How long will B 98.5 remain without competition???

God, I hope not. Put that boring format on The Bull...another boring format.

The Bull is Clear Channel. Dave 92.9, Fresh-Chicago, and Fresh-NY are CBS stations.

Yeah, I know that. So they can't lease the format from CBS?

Anything, but Country, would be better than Dave. This station is a joke, along with 94.1, 94.9, 96.1, 97.1, 99.7, 102.5.

Uh, I'd say the market is over-saturated with the various urban formats, not rock.

Yes and no.

If you mean lease the format. No. There are no legal rules regarding formats in the US. Take Adult Hits stations. Many are named "Jack" or "Bob", but even more have unique names "Tom" "Ben" "Joe" etc. All a person who created a format can do is trademark (and sell rights to) the name, imaging, and (in some cases) the voice talent.

So CC could do a "Bright AC" format without using the "Fresh" name. But if they reeeeally want that daggum name, they might have to have a chat with the suits at CBS Radio.

Actually the FRESH brand is not owned by CBS, it's actually owned by a company called MHR Marketing. The FRESH format is consulted and marketed by a consultancy group known as Vallie/Richards/Donavan. But I don't see CBS going FRESH with dave anyway as they continue to evolve the music into a true AAA format and seem to be continuing the search for additional/new on-air talent, while still searching out a quality listener base.

If anyone was going to do a FRESH format in Atlanta, I would think Cumulus would consider making a move with NNX, which of course would hurt COX, help CBS stick with dave longer and of course help Clear Channel's PROJECT.

What CBS needs to do is Bring an AC Station,Im getting tired of B98.5! or make WLTM signal stronger could it be possible?.

How about going back to "Hit Radio Z93"? They could bring in Steve and Vickie for the morning show. Randy and Spiff could do the drive home. Make it pop radio from the past playing the hits prior to 1995 with DJ's that took requests, remote live contests, and concert promotion that brings everyone out. I think it would make money. I know that some of the older bands/groups are touring making great money. Could Z93 cater to that demo of those who want to re-live their younger years?

Novel idea, AND the people who listened to Steve McCoy and the old (good) Z93 back in the day are now smack in the middle of the money demos that advertisers want.

Flip it, commit to having real, live people on it and have someone local program it, and who knows what might happen?

Pull out those old Jam Creative jingles ("The Flamethrower," et al) just for grins and giggles.

I doubt DAVE will be flipping soon. They installed Mike Wheeler only about 4 months ago. I'm guessing they'll give him some time. He hasn't even put on a morning show yet. But then again, this is radio so you never know.

no, this will never happen as the corporate suits that control radio do not want to spend any money for live talent, nor would they ever allow local programming decisions...let's face it the radio "we" grew up on is but a distant memory. Hopefully when it falls flat on it's face and the corporate turds abandon the business and move on to monopolize some other industry (like Internet content), radio will rise from the ashes and those who survive will be 100 percent local, serving the community. That's a nice pipe dream isn't it? I know...I'm asleep. ::)

??? The station in Chicago had worse numbers than Dave. Dave has a unique niche and buyers dig it. That's good partnering with big V103. No change on 92.9.

How is that good partnering? Station has bad ratings. Buyers pay based on ratings.
They might be buying but certainly aren't paying as much as they would if Dave was a top 5.

Mike Wheeler had ZERO rock radio experience before he was hired at CC Atlanta.
And we all know how that ended.
But.... he has programmed Ac/Chr stations. He is days away from signing a male co-host for Holly. WHY?????? Holly is NOT the answer for DaveFm but may be a good host for an A/C station. You say Dave as a unique niche? Niche doesn't pay the bills. There is an A/C hole in this market and 92.9 will fill that hole.

DaveFm is going bye bye soon...

I think by good partnering he meant that Dave is somewhat isulated by V and the fact that they bill like mad, so, that gives the company some lattitude with Dave

Why is Holly not a good fit for Dave?
