According to this news report, that's what Infinity might have planned.

Lead paragraphs from the Reuters article:

David Lee Roth to replace Howard Stern

"NEW YORK (Billboard) - Infinity Broadcasting isn't commenting on an online report penned by a former Howard Stern Show regular that suggests David Lee Roth will be one of the personalities that ultimately replaces the ribald DJ on the airwaves.

"Chaunce Hayden, a gossip and celebrity writer for New York/New Jersey entertainment guide SteppinOutMagazine.com, writes that 'an Infinity source has confirmed the signing.'"

Doesn't that throw a monkey wrench into things?

It's not a bad move- but to tell you the truth- the rock star I feel that would have earned this promotion would be Dee Snyder.

For those of you who don't know- Dee Snyder hosts a syndicated classic metal-hard rock show called "House of Hair" that is heard on K-Rock. But really is days hosting such programming occurred way back in 1986 when Twisted Sister was still big and he basically started the Headbangers Ball on MTV with a forerunner show that played the hard bands of the day. He does have other styles of presentation other than the "Shout At You a Million Miles an Hour" way he hosts House of Hair.

Roth is going to say his funny things and he's going to be "look at me" and be kind of outrageous- sort of like Stern. I don't know if he'll have the hard edge Stern has, however.

Snyder, though, can do all this. He's also deeper- I could not see Roth being able to locate Washington, D.C. on a map- but meanwhile Snyder testified to Congress back in the eighties about warning labels on records and can easily engage in a thought-provoking, educational, and humorous discussion of rock music history.

See, this is the kind of stuff that makes radio what it is today... crap - total crap! Do we really need some over-the-hill long haired goober tellin' every female in sight what he'd like to do to them? It's so lame & mind numbing that to try to describe it any further would be an injustice to mankind.<P ID="signature">______________

As I'll tell anyone who will listen - David Lee Roth is not Tommy Lee. I won't post URLs and transcriptions of his interviews, but Roth actually has interesting things to say outside of his Vaudeville / metal shtick. And seeing as how both DLR and Stern have made careers out of being misunderstood, Roth seems like an inspired choice for a replacement.
