Will holidays bring cheer to radio his year?

With 25 days until Black Friday, radio is hoping retailers will soon be decking the airwaves with boughs of holiday ad dollars...with six fewer days and one fewer weekend between Black Friday and Christmas Day, retailers are girding for a more compact 2013 shopping season.

Although not in New York, I wonder if the candidates for Mayor bought spots on music stations during the recent campaign (I suspect they bought lots of time on commercial news and talk stations).

Such political spots would be welcome revenue for stations.

As for who might go all-Christmas, WLTW-106.7 will definitely take the plunge, probably within the next ten days (by November 15th); maybe even sooner.

I could also see WWFS-102.7 and/or WPLJ-95.5 going all-Christmas. If either does so before WLTW, WLTW will follow quickly.

Wonder how long Fresh 102.7-HD2 stays all-Christmas this year. Last year it played Christmas music till Valentine's Day. WODS-HD3 in Boston kept the Christmas music well into March.
Just goes to show how much CBS cares about its HD subchannels.

Why dont WLTW take a page from CBS-FM a few years ago Christmas music from 7pm-12am weeknights
This way you Can please everyone you dont have to Play it 24-7

Christmas Radio in NYC Thread

Some highlights as of 11/21/13:

The Stations playing Christmas music:
-WWFS HD2 (Fresh 102.7 Christmas)
-WFAS-FM (103.9 WFAS, a rim-shot of NYC)

As of 5PM today, WLTW did not switch to Holiday music, but I bet tomorrow at 5 they will flip. Last year, WLTW flipped on a Friday, the 16th to be precise, at 5:00PM. On the RadioInsight Christmas thread, it said sister station 97.1 WASH FM from D.C. will flip tomorrow. I think WLTW, WASH and most Clear Channel A.C. stations will flip tomorrow (at 5PM my opinion). I know Chicago did already.

It is official, WLTW is now all-Christmas, with the "New York's Christmas Station" slogan.

Meanwhile, up in Poughkeepsie which is about 70 miles north of NYC, WRNQ's "Lite 92.1" went all Christmas. I remember last year, WGNY's "Fox Oldies" went all Christmas for two days from 12 PM noon Christmas Eve until 12 AM Christmas Day. It plays everything from other genres but not oldies music. I have a mass amount of airchecks from last year which I will be posting it soon. It takes about 36 parts. I recorded the full 36 hours of Christmas music on "Fox Oldies" and it was all jockless and no commercial interruptions except the TOH ABC Radio newscast with limited commercials which I'm not going to include there.

A full 36 hours of Christmas music on WGNY's "Fox Oldies" sounded a lot similar to the competing stations like WLTW's "Lite-FM" for example along with other stations went all Christmas such as WTRY 98.3 in Albany and WZMR at 104.7 also went Chritmas until the format change or any of the HD subchannels. It's all over the place. Christmas music is a waste of time, and everyone loved it during the holiday season. If I have a full 36-part airchecks of all Chrstmas music on "Fox Oldies" last year, I will going to post it. I will give my regards to all the hype on what is going on with Christmas music on different stations.
