Will Howie discuss Herald blunder (spygate) on his show?

I don't think Howie has said anything on air about the Herald situation re: spygate. Will he discuss
it today? The Herald apologizes in today's edition

http://www.bostonherald.com

"While the Boston Herald based its Feb. 2, 2008, report on sources that it believed to be credible, we now know that this report was false, and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed. "

I'm sure WEEI is discussing it and so is Severin, acc. to one comment ("It was funny to hear Jay Severin rip you and your garbage paper today")

Even though I'm a Howie fan and a Herald reader, I have to wonder if he'll bring it up. (Same paper btw
that recently canned Tai's blog...gee, did Tai going after Howie have to do with it? :)

255 comments so far and many are calling for John Tomase to be fired. One defended the writer.
Comparison made to Rather. Calls for a boycott of the paper, vows of cancelled subscriptions.

More is at http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com
One post they made says they don't believe Tomase should be fired and that editors share the blame,
but they feel a better explanation should be made for the jump-to-conclusions (after one source,
or was it "source(s)"?) article being put out. Accountability, etc.

"The mainstream media (including employees of the Herald) loves to crow about bloggers having no accountability for the things they write and get wrong. Where’s the accountability here?"

And pardon me for having a Carr-esque bit of cynicism here but if what if the article had appeared
in what Graham calls The Boston Globe-Democrat instead? :)

there's a much bigger story than spygate. yet another wrko 68+ listener drove into a storefront while listening to howie's show yesterday.

Ah, I heard about that! :)

>>Police say the driver was an older male.

At 46, I must be in the young part of the demo.
If this were being mentioned on Howie's show (and it prob will be):

SANDY: (reads article on air)
HOWIE: Tell me, this driver, how OLD was he? About 70? 75?

SANDY: You're a little low.
HOWIE: How old?
SANDY: 83 years old...

:)
(actually I don't know how old the driver was, this is just an example!)

howie is so predictable and repetitive. hour #2 will be all about beautiful people and celebrities being beautiful people and celebrities. like tim russert's spoiled brat son luke crying about bruce willis taking over his hoity toity waterworks complex for a movie shoot...you won't hear about this on meet the press this weekend.

Yeah you could set a watch by him (death pool, Mumbles, supermarket gripes, T complaints,
what made you leave the city, mobster talk) but I find it entertaining

3:10 pm : Yup he IS talking about it. He isn't going to defend his paper.

"A lot of people are blaming the Pats' loss in the Super Bowl on the Herald..." He said the Herald's
site is getting a huge amount of hits
Most popular article-- the Herald apology; #2, the Curious George T-shirt, #3, Howie column on the Cheeseman

BEST part of yesterday's radio listening.............In the last seconds of "Eagle N' the Turd Braude".....last caller blew the whistle that O'Reilly got BOOED at the NE Emmys......Of course nobody at 'TKK had the stones to bring it up eariler...Why no coverege on that HI-larious event!.... Isn't THIS the time that Barry Nolan was going to bring Olberman as his "date".......No mention of it on Countdown....drats! BUT Nice job droppin' the YouTube rant just in time fo' "Falfel Boy's" award! SeeYa!!

Probably the same, or maybe greater since the Globe has more readers and is considered the more important paper.
The criticism seems to be driven by Patriot fans rather than by Herald haters (of which there may well be fewer than Globe haters.) Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Extraordinary claims with no proof are why Dan Rather is working in third tier cable.

The real cynical observation is that the story put the Herald back on the local radar, big time. I would bet that the paper with the front page apology head probably had the biggest newsstand and vending sell-through of any edition of the paper in the last ten years.

3:10 pm : Yup he IS talking about it. He isn't going to defend his paper.

Ummm…he’s not going to defend a poorly-sourced story the paper has already copped to as indefensible? Not exactly Profiles in Courage material. What’s the downside for him here? The Herald obviously needs Carr more than Carr needs the Herald. It’s marginal wannabees like Maloney who have to carry water for the Herald, not the star columnists.

Ah! Yup, Hokey Wolfe in action...

Must have been hard to get Carr to comment on the biggest story in town, especially when the paper has already admitted they screwed up. Ya know, outsourcing your thought process to Maloney is never the wise choice.

EDS, the gift that keeps on giving.

Regards,
TSB

I heard the crossover between D&C and Holley this AM. The little I heard, had Callahole defending the Herald to the point where he sounded like a complete fool. Even Dennis turned on him.
