Will Imus return to Providence?

Citadel Broadcasting is close to finalizing a contract with Don Imus that would bring the controversial radio host back to the airwaves, a person familiar with the discussions said Tuesday.

Yup Newsday is reporting it and he could wind up on WABC or WPLJ in the big apple and who knows
where else.
...WHJJ? (if he does mornings they could take him in place of Quinn and Rose...) Certainly not
WPRO, local all day.

I don't think it would be PLJ...they've got Scott Shannon in the morning and Rocky Allen in the afternoon, I don't know who WABC has on at the moment mornings (Curtis & Kuby?); but Hannity is afternoons (being syndicated from their studios). I would believe that would be a more likely landing spot

If Imus is going to Citadel. Why would WHJJ pick him up? I thought I read a while back that Imus's new show was leaning towards another daypart?
Some thing tells me Dan Yorke may be looking for another gig and Dan sounds very good on WTKK. It would nt surprise if within a year from now Dan was doing middays on WTKK or end up on WRKO.

Holland explained it best. Learn from the Master (Mel Karmazin). If you air your program on the competitions station, you will now own a piece of them as well! HJJ will get a Hot commodity and Citadel will now have a hand in the competitors cookie jar. Everyone wins. It makes sense.

They can put IMUS on 99.7/790 in Providence and replace O&A. While they are a sports station remember IMUS has been on Sports Stations in the past WEEI in Boston and of course flagship WFAN in NYC. And maybe IMUS on 104.7 in New London replacing O&A.

I don't think they have a problem w/ O&A on the Score and think it will probably be over on HJJ so they can still have the $$ they are getting off of O&A and have a hand in the pocket of Clear Channel over at WHJJ. WABC's morning show is Curtis Sliwa...I don't know what the ratings are; but they are tied for 9th w/ the latest trend M-Sun 6a to midnite. I would see that as a landing spot unless the rumors are true about a PLJ format flip (would not like to see that happen for former Pro-FMers Tony Mascaro & Rocky Allen/Blaine Ensley).

I got you now.

I wonder if an Imus Return is the reason why WHJJ is keeping such a weak morning show?

If Imus has a deal with Citadel...and assuming WPRO is the spot in Providence...

If its morning-drive, where does that leave Depetro?
If its afternoon-drive, where does that leave York?
It would also to an extent negate the station's emphasis on local programming between 5 a.m. & 7 p.m.

Would "The Score" make more sense if Imus returns to morning-drive?

If IMUS doesn't make it to the Score replacing O&A(not sure what there ratings are like there), I wouldn't be surprised if you end up hearing IMUS taped and replayed at night on WPRO after Matt. It's been done before with other hosts. I don't think WPRO will move around their new lineup during the day. As for HJJ, You would only see IMUS there if the higher ups in Providence at the Citadel palace really fight to keep their current line-up. But who really knows, stranger things have happened.

Mike,

I couldn't disagree more. Rush (a Clear Channel product) is played on a multitude of stations/companies elsewhere (WABC in NY for example-a Citadel station). Why not have Imus on WHJJ-where he was prior to getting Sharptoned? If they haven't jumped ship already, his listeners were/are already there.

Don't forget Imus started on WWRX 103.7 then parked on B101 then moved to WHJJ.So no matter where Imus ends up he will an audience.

Yeah he will have an audience since he's always had a loyal following. But I still think he had a lot larger audience back in the 70's and 80's before he went all political.
