Will internet radio ever compete with broadcast radio?

Will internet radio ever compete with broadcast radio with now pod-casting and internet only radios
and with wireless internet or do you that it will always be 2nd place to broadcast radio? :D

For me, internet radio is not even on the radar. Internet connections are so bad and unreliable that the dropouts alone would annoy me.

Online streams still have limitations. Many use sub-par audio quality (less than 100kbps) in their streams, and some run unreliable streams that stop and buffer a lot. Also, some stations play annoying syndicated commercials on their online streams, usually only in the US, but it gets annoying quick. If I can pick it up on FM, I would rather do that. Audio quality is definitely superior on analog FM, despite what some say.

We're taking the internet radio station to the next level. We are shooting a reality TV about our station and we broadcast on Ustream. Internet radio is the future. We say whatever we want and we make our own rules. Look at Pandora.com and Amazon with the cloud. Internet Radio is the next stop and we're on it. http://wkrpradio.com/

Internet radio is a lot like someone in the 1970's trying to say their CB radio, Ham radio or short wave radio station is the future.

Radio is exactly that. Radio. Professional, and very local (for most AM and FM stations in each market)

The internet radio stations fail to understand how to get people to listen, let alone justifying the difference between someone that sounds like they just walked in off the street (yelling "LOOK MOM! I'm on the radio!") and the true professionals.

If an internet radio station is going to be the future, I think it still needs an AM or FM to offer stronger support toward the idea that it's both local and professional.

Otherwise, it's just another station lost in internet space, and may as well be a community radio station.

internet radio will always be 2nd:
BESIDES the poor audio quality, and CONSTANT drop outs,
here is a top 5

1. try to find it - sure some have easy
web-addresses, but MOST have tuff to
remember addresses, and need to be just
right. secondly, most you will find in
trade magazines, or while waiting
(say in a dentist office).. accessiblity kills it.
(versus, quick put on z103 )
-
2. what draws you in; ironically chases u away.
the niche format ( or all in one place format) works but
what made you WOW at first, gets stale after the
same 50 songs recycle thru and thru..
(and generally home made/or semi professional sites,
i-Radio's) are notorious for "updating" the playlist; events calendar, etc.

3. yes, formats change on AM/FM/broadcast radio but
veery frustrating when u click on a website to see the
go-daddy domain for sale page. (ugh)
i do like people invest time and money, but usually its
too much for an individual versus a radio cluster (to do it right)

4. now that "every one" can broadcast on the 'net
it makes it tuff to find CRAP versus some thing worth while
or book marking to check out later. .

5.(a)
if its not reliable, some (me included) are weary of
click here for the download player . .
(b)
some (me included) are not ahead of the
technology curve, and only can listen to the
internet radio at the computer desk or school lab
where i have my computer.. a laptop has made it easier
but if i hear a JAM ! i cant crank it up like i can, if
on z103 -for example...
if i could take it (easily) to the gym, to work out too then maybe
but that brings me back to.. ... cheap $10 FM.walkman, headphones
i can tune into the radio i want to hear... maybe not all the
songs , but its "good enuff" (and iRadio doesnt play every thing
i like) - its down fall actually may be TOOOO slim of a playlist:

u google (say electronic music) and find soo MUCH unknown (trance),"techno"
, tribal, non-vocal "noise" and other non sense... etc, just want top40 dance....
-goes back to Just flippp on the radio
