Will KNIX air Buck Owens funeral on sunday?

I am curious if Clear Channel will air Buck Owens funeral on KNIX? I know Clear Channel is not obligated but I would think it would be good PR as Buck Owens had an extensive involvement in Phoenix with KNIX. I know all of Buck's Bakersfield stations will air it on sunday at 2:pM. Just wondering if Phoenix will be involved?

Too Bad

Too bad. If the Owens family had still owned KNIX, I guarantee you that they would air the funeral.

Again, no

When Owens owned KUZZ, KTUF and KNIX, he did not order his stations to play his music, and they didn't.

My guess is that Owens would not want anything to disrupt the format.

And by the way, my first answer is an educated guess, nothing more.

Years ago, when I woned a Top 40 staiton in a very competitive market (over 40 local signals) I had a small card on the bulleten board that said, "In the case of my passing, you will kindly honor me by playing the hits."

Nobody cares about the internal happenings of a radio station, including the death of the owner. For gosh sake, the purpose of radio is to entertain.

(Exceptions given for small town stations where death and birth notices are very much a part of local radio).

I wouldn't have expected Clear Channel to do it...

But KNIX under Buck's ownership, was NOT an inconsequential member of the community...

You're right. In fact he knew most of his music was not that popular. That's why his stations were not called K-BUCK

Again you are right, Buck would not want anything to disrupt the format, but his family is planning to disrupt not 1 but ALL 3 of his Bakersfield stations with his funeral.Whether or not it is bad and morbid, They are doing it regardless. In my opinion,If they had to air it in Bakersfield they should have done it only on KUZZ-550 AM only. All 3 stations however, is just too much.

Again I think you are probably right. I thought Buck had a more promenient presence in Phoenix and that there were people there interested in listening to a funeral. But I'm guessing not in comparison to Bakersfield.

Buck was probably a bigger part of Bakersfield than Phoenix. Whether or not it is Bad and Morbid, All 3 of Buck's Bakersfield stations are going to air his funeral. Personally, If they had to air it,I would have done it only on the AM station:KUZZ-550
