Will KOST have new competition?

There's a rumor spreading like wildfire that someone in LA may go AC against KOST, and it's not 100.3. Nothing confirmed at this point, but it's a biggie if it's true. KOST has never been more vulnerable thanks to the dumb moves by Clear Channel management and it would seem that people are thinking that the time is right to go after KOST's upset audience. I'm hearing that this new AC station will be headed by someone very familiar to the format... We'll have to wait & see...

Perhaps Bonneville. KOIT in San Francisco is huge and their former long time GM is still with the company.

That is a possibility, but I hear it's another station, another company, not Bonneville and 100.3.

My first thought is Bonneville. But if its not them, could it be Emmis and 93.9?

CBS Fresh?

How is klsx doing these days?

It is doing magnificently. Top 10 billing in market.

The only non-Clear Channel full signal FMs billing less than $25 million are KKGO, Movin, KKLA and KRBV. The only one between $29.9 million and $25 million in English is KRTH.

David:

Are KYSR, KBIG, and KHHT all over $30 mil...

I excluded the CCU statations, since the thread is about going up against KOST.

The first two are barely over $30, 92.3 is around $25. Of course, since all the sources show cluster revenue, any numbers you see will be best guesses at breaking it into pieces. Take the numbers as an intelligent approximation.

They should locate their studios at forest lawn.

What?

Anyway, no one is even close. It's actually a successful station that is usually in the top ten. I know it makes little sense, but from what I've heard the company that owns them may want to change the format so that they can change the type of audience they have and feel that they can take them away from KOST, especially with a veteran AC programmer running the operation. KOST hasn't had a head to head competitor in years and so far they vanquished every station that came at them, but times change and with the negative feelings many have about the changes that CC made at KOST another station could put a dent in the KOST machine.

If this happens and I think it will, it will be major news.

My guess is KRTH. Jhani Kaye, an aging audience, and revenue that is on the decline...

You're close, but still no cigar...

By the way smooth jazz has been dumped lately across the country, KTWV?

As for KLOS I don't know where you're getting your info. The only way I could see this is if KLOS took the True Oldies format off the bird, and had a local weekday morning host.

Count out KLOS. True Oldies come June for 95.5.

In the PPM era flipping KLOS from Rock to True Oldies would be a massive mistake. When the People Meter does arrive KLOS should do much better. Besides LA has one oldies station that until a year or so back was on life support. It's doing much better now because it's NOT playing a lot of 50's & 60's music. It also doesn't have as tight a playlist as it used to.

But you are right, it isn't KLOS.

I agree, doesn't seem that smart, but hey it's just what I'm hearing and lets face it, radio executives haven't been making the smartest moves lately...

Is it KTWV? They are a consistently in the top ten, but Smooth Jazz stations around the country are giving up the format due to aging demographics.
Another guess would be KLOS - but I do not believe they are usually in the top 10.
I doubt any of the Spanish stations are considering this move, although KLAX would be an interesting story if it flipped.

We have a winner... But hey, it's only a rumor. However I'm putting serious money on it...

Hope you have a few credit cards to use after you lose all your money. (Going with D.E - billing fact...who would mess with that $$$)
