Will Mix 96.5 "Get Mixed Up and Go Top 40"?

Saga Communication's Mix 96.5 (WOXL in Biltmore Forest/Asheville, NC) needs to be in competition with Asheville's current CHR/Top 40 station, Star 104.3. I am either thinking either a Rhythmic-Leaning Top 40 station on that frequency, like Hits 96.5 (possibly not, because people might get confused with the Hits 96.5 in Chattanooga or Energy 96.5. It should have Top 40 songs that are on Star 104.3's playlist, but not all the soft parts of the station. It should also add some Hip Hop Music, like Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Beyonce, and all those artists that Star 104.3 don't play.

Mix 96.5 should also make fun of 104.3 or try to say that "Star 104.3 SUCKS!" They should also have a "high" pitch like most of their sister stations in Ithaca, NY; Milwaukee, WI; and Des Moines, IA. Even though Star 104.3 is Hot AC-leaning, Hits/Energy 96.5 should also play new music "that Star dosen't play". They should also have 1 or 2 syndicated weekend shows. They should also say that "Star 104.3 is boring" or "Star 104.3 plays more commercials than them." They only play just a handful amount of commercials per hour, less than Star.

In the end this should be their look,

1. Hits 96.5 "WE SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS!"

2. Energy 96.5 "WE SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS!"

This is a bad idea. Asheville needs a station that plays soft music. While Mix isn't it, it's the closest thing they've got. Actually, WKJV is probably better when they actually play music. I was unfortunate enough to land on WKJV just as the music was ending last year. I'll know where to go for music next year, assuming I arrive in the area soon enough.

WCQS doesn't play classical music enough. WMUU is online only.

What Asheville really needs is a tranlator for WHLC.

I agree it's a bad idea. In fact, it's a terrible idea. Although Saga doesn't sell the numbers, Mix has had better numbers than any CHR in the market since Kiss ran the format more than 20 years ago. It's always top-2 in 25-54 women, and I believe it has even beaten Kiss Country in that demo a few times. Mix is pretty much a license to print money, and Saga would be stupid to flip it.

If Saga were to flip any station, it would be WTMT or The River. I'm not sure how likely either of those are, but they seem more likely than Mix flipping.

You are right. Energy 98.1 or Hits 98.1 would be pretty good. After all, it's a translator station playing almost the same music as it's main channel. Thanks. All the iHeartMedia stations and not Saga are in the Nielsen ratings. Sorry...

I was under the impression 98.1 was The River, playing the music the tree huggers like. Not my taste, but it's not the same thing other stations play.

At the present time, WTMT is the only rock station with a good signal in Haywood County. WQNS used to be there but they moved. Now you can't even hear WQNS where it used to be.

I am doing this because people need an alternative to WQNQ, not WTMT or WQNS, because they are doing good, I mean 98.1, because they are not that good, we need a competitor for Star, maybe even WMYI My 102.5 as they are going to Top 40-leaning Adult Top 40 (IDK if that makes sense...LOL)

I was the unregistered user in this thread. After being in Asheville 2 years ago, I want WOXL-FM or it's HD2 signal 98.1 to be a CHR/Top 40 (rhythmic-leaning to be exact) to compete with WQNQ Star 104.3, and this is it's logo. I was too busy to put the HD2, sorry. :(

WOXL-FM was describing itself as "hit music". Nothing about it was soft, but I don't know whether that was a real change from before, since even mainstream AC sounds pretty much like Hot AC these days.

Star was playing a lot of rhythmic and even rap.

The Mountain was once "everything that rocks" but it seems to be just classics now.
