Will Pensacola ever get a new Sports station?

Since we all believe Sports is gone from 98.1, who's going to step up to fill that format hole? I don't see any FMs flipping so that leaves us with good ol' fashion AM. So, who will flip to Sports and why hasn't it happened yet?

Would it be possible for one of the AMs to move a translator into Pensacola like stations in Montgomery and Tallahassee have done?
For example, could WNRP 1620 move W293BA to the old WRRX tower area and still put out enough watts to matter?

Well all i know about Sports is that most Clear Channel Radio like WNLS-AM 1270 The Team runs FOX SPORTS Radio. The promb is that there no ESPN Radio here in North Florida area. There ESPN Radio in Jacksonville,Tampa Bay, Ocala/Gainesville, Orlando, and Miami

How can we get ESPN Radio back to North Florida Big Bend Area?

Tallahassee has 2 AM gospel stations and 1(in thomasville ga WSTT) 2 christian AM station

That's all i know about Tallahassee's Radio thank god I have XM-Radio to listren to ESPN Radio.

What pensacola needs is a 10KW non directional sports station. I think 98.1 will be "The classic rock station"
Panama City has a nice station that I listen to quite often on 590. I think that's only 5KW. Comes in semi strong here on the CC radio 2. Maybe 1450 can be turned to sports as they are fighting with 94.1 and 99.9 (they seem to be on reduced power too)

I actually like Rob's idea of flipping WBSR 1450. Isn't it and WECM 1490 (Milton) running formats for, dare I say it, the nursing home crowd? I know they're graveyard signals but they certainly can't be doing much as music stations. Sync them up for sports radio duty.

If WVTJ 610 had a stronger night signal (Hey, "610 ESPN"!) or WASG 550 ever came back into a Florida existence, I'd have suggested them as choices also.

I usually listen to WBSR when I go down to the AL coast. I'd much rather listen to it with their low-fidelity signal than listen to some of the "lite rock" fare of WMEZ or WMXC. btw, not all of us who listen to that type of music WBSR offers are in the "nursing home", either...I'm 41 here. ;)

I don't think it makes much difference what WBSR does, as far as format goes...it's never going to fare that well with that miniscule signal it has; they ought to try buying an FM translator to supplement their coverage.

WBSR shows up very well in the published ratings, so someone's listening. How they've survived nearly 10 years without running commercials is beyond me.
WECM is really irrelevant in most of the Pensacola metro. New Orleans' WWL puts a better signal into Pensacola than 1490.
WPNN, WCOA, WEBY, 610, 1070, and 1230 aren't changing formats soon unless they're sold.
WNRP is new, they just flipped from classic country a few years back. They tried to go all local talk for a year and it didn't work. Now they're syndicated talk. They haven't been around long enough to build any sort of following. Sports looks like a no brainer for them.
Is there something i'm overlooking?

Is there any room on the FM dial in Pensacola (32501) for a new/move-in FM translator?

I mentioned in the first post that WNRP 1620 owns a translator that they don't appear to be using. The current authorized signal for their 106.5 translator covers nothing. It would be far more useful near the WRRX tower site or anywhere else really.

New translators are popping up everywhere, why didn't Pensacola get any?

It's a hobby. The millions he banked by selling 94.1 allow him to play radio... and play the kind of tunes he likes. Think of WBSR as "vanity media." Put ten bucks on it staying that way until he dies.

Hard to believe it was a great radio station as a Top 40 back in the day...

Well, if the owner's got some cash to throw at it...how's about fixing that website from 1998? I've seen cookie-cutter blogs that look better... :D

What's the deal with 550? that was a giant (5KW?) that was a hell of a signal when active. any word on that?
