Will people stop to watch potential trainwrecks this season? The answer is...

Re: Will people stop to watch potential trainwrecks this season? The answer is..

I give The Bionic Woman half a season at most. From the previews I've seen, it's all special effects and few other qualities. Folks like me who remember the original will probably find it silly, and their kids will get bored if they watch at all.

But that's a better shot than I give Cavemen. Without the actors from the GEICO commercials, this show has no chance whatsoever and no reason to even exist. It'll be gone after a month at the latest. In fact, it could get the You're In The Picture Award for 2007 - gone after one week.

Keith, I do get the reference, but for some of our sliiiightly younger viewers
(well, not that much younger), it could be aka the Turn On Award. ;)

Oddly enough, I'm intrigued about how the Caveman show will be. But, there's really no way I see myself as a regular viewer. I might record an episode or two, but that's about it.

Or the "Emily's Reasons Why Not" Award.

"Emily's Reasons Why Not" was another ABC show that was gone after only one episode, but the full series was shown in Spain and Latin America.

Jonathan Allen

"Emily's Reasons Why Not" sounds like the kinda show that should air on BBC, not ABC.

"You're in the Picture" was an ill-fated game show on CBS hosted by the late Jackie Gleason. The game show, of course, pre-dated "The Honeymooners".

Re: Will people stop to watch potential trainwrecks this season? The answer is..

"The Honeymooners" started on Gleason's DuMont
show "Cavalcade Of Stars" in 1951; he took it with
him to CBS in 1952, made it a separate series (the
"Classic 39") in 1955, then reincorporated it into his
variety show in 1956. Later (1966-70) he made new,
musical episodes.

"You're In The Picture" aired on January 20, 1961,
a period when Gleason was between his '50s and
'60s variety shows and new "Honeymooners" episodes
were not being produced.

As for "Cavemen," I'll reiterate something I said when
ABC first announced it. The show takes place in
Atlanta, and if it goes beyond one week and pokes
fun at Southerners, this will be one time I won't
object if WSB decides to pre-empt.

Or, maybe this "award" could be named...

The Dot Comedy Award - named after the ABC show that ran on 12/8/2000.
The Emily's Reasons Why Not Award (already mentioned) - ABC 1/9/2006.
The Lawless Award - A 1997 Fox show that starred Brian Bosworth. They couldn't get Howie Long?
The Rich List Award - The other game show that was canned after one episode. 11/1/2006 on Fox.

BP - thanks for the clarification on the Gleason game. I actually thought that disaster went down *before* his more popular show, that's how short it was on!

Speaking of cancelled Fox shows, it probably won't help your case when you boast in your title about how long your show will exist - example "Ryan Caulfield: Year One". Did this reach Episode Three?

Ok, getting back on topic, I bet Cavemen makes it 3 episodes. Everyone will show up for the first one, ABC will boast "Tuesday's newest Hit comedy," but after 3 it will be painfully obvious that people would rather watch the cranky house, than three men with make up and long beards.

I've read somewhere (not sure where) that some potential ad revenue may not pull through(for Caveman), as competitors of Geico may not wish to place their ads "In someone else's ad"

"You're in the picture" from 1961 actually spawed a short lived Entertainment interview formatted show called "The Jackie Gleason Show"

Re: Will people stop to watch potential trainwrecks this season? The answer is..

Something similar happened in regards to ads with Candice Bergen and Sprint. CBS wouldn't take an ad from Sprint DURING the "Murphy Brown" time slot. Though they would accept them for all other shows.

"The Caveman Show" doesn't stand a chance even with the original cave men from the Geico commercials. The show will be on TV Land with endess promos and reruns shortly.
