Will Premiere Radio bring back an evening talk show?

Since Hendrie left they've had no evening talent. They added McConnell to mid-days, which is silly to me because Glenn Beck is there. Costas, Laporte, Punnett have been added to weekends. Since 10 PM for a lot of Coast to Coast affiliates is a replay, I'm surprised Premiere hasn't picked up another nighttime show for syndication.

When you think of the two shows Premiere has run live at 10pm over the years...Lionel....then Hendrie...with all due respect to George Noory (and much is due!), it's still kind of sad. But I'm betting that C2C replays at 10 do better than anything else they ever offered there prior. Stations end up with higher ratings. Premiere has less expense. What's not to like?

Understand that Premiere is a syndicator of individual programs, not really a network. Therefore, they don't have to fill every hour of the day - and can double up in more profitable dayparts.

They're not a network yes, but a lot of their news/talk programs have similar appeal. Glenn Beck is on so many affiliates I'm wondering how many will be willing to take McConnell when they could have Glenn "#3 in America with adults 25-54" Beck, who also has a TV show.

Looks like a lot of Clear Channel stations are taking Mark Levin in the evening.

Frankly, having a TV show show should make you run away as fast as you can. Last thing you need is someone who keeps telling their listeners to watch 'em on TV. For radio, no other medium should exist. I want Glenn Beck to tell listens to stay tuned to my station!!!!!! That's ALL!

I know, he mentions radio on TV, but the return impact is minimal! I don't want the listener to leave me for anything!

Get real! Radio is what people settle for when they can't watch TV. You can't watch TV while driving, you can listen to the radio. You can't watch TV while working, you can (usually) listen to the radio.

The days when people sat around the living room listening to the big Atwater-Kent ended a long, long time ago. It's 2007, not 1937.

I still don't want them to! Why should I provide free advertising for the competitor.

I also am not fond of them promoting their books on my air without actually paying for the advertising time. I would think that might be afoul of the payola/plugola rules! What do you think?

What do you think?

I think that if anyone is so worried about the consequences of any sort of punishment for violating those rules that the individual lets it excessively affect his judgement, then that individual should change careers to a different industry.

That's because Hannity is on a lot of Clear Channel-owned stations, and ABC Radio has threatened to pull Hannity off stations if they didn't add Mark Levin. One station in Delaware actually said no and replaced Hannity with local programming. Some old Hendrie affiliates like WGST picked up Levin, but WGST doesn't have any local shows in the afternoon anyway. They used to.

You can always DB McConnell (or Beck, although they'll have a cow if you want him to air after 7pm). Or, when you call to get Beck, or they call you, they'll push McConnell on you. It's always good for syndicators to have lesser talent to impose on stations.
