And I'd really hope that listeners of Pulse (all 4 of you) would establish your own board and discuss any and all topics related to that quasi-station over there!

ooh MarcR, you're so cool, can I be like you? lol...dude, it's a board for all radio stations, if you don't want to read comments like mine, I've got a great solution for ya...don't read them!! Now that's an idea, huh? lol...moving on...

You're absolutely right, it's indeed a board for all *radio stations*, but that doesn't necessarily include *quasi-radio stations* like Pulse, so there!

Pulse doesn't seem to play a lot of older music...once per hour or so? That's not too bad. If anyone is stuck in the past, it's KTU.

As for MarcR, I guess it hurts to see something new and exciting to come on the air in NYC. I don't know many "quasi" radio stations that have a full, high-profile morning show and almost a full lineup of DJ's throughout the day, especially in an era of downsizing in radio. Hope you're enjoying the 543,654,892nd airing of Donna Summer on KTU ;D

MarcR buddy, how the heck are ya! ;D You never did answer my question on the other board but I digress....

Back on topic, the ONE mistake I don't want to see happen is another 'KTU thing. Yes Brett, you need SOME classics, but NOT to the extent that happened over at KTU.

And regarding freestyle, I gotta give KTU credit for further brainwashing the old stuff into the mindset of people because when I brought up (on another board) the subject that if NEW freestyle were to come about, the music would have to reinvent itself..people were up in arms, not wanting for that to happen. If that mindset is stuck and for some reason Pulse 87 were to play new freestyle in that 1988 flair, it will take things 2 steps back.

Remember the ratings drop occurred before KTU's swing to the classics... there was a reason they added them, it was to sustain. Not all dance fans want wall-to-wall bumping head splitting beats and new jams all day, and if Pulse is getting comments and e-mails from all sorts of people off its website, then watch out, because Classic Dance is popular here in NYC... within the last two years remember there was nearly 6 shares of classic dance dominated radio on the NYC dial.

yes the ratings went up, but KTU was too broad with their music. They were playing a lot of disco tracks. There were too many decades on that station. There target demo even back then was 25-54. The new music doesnt fit the older generation

The problem with freestyle is that no station wants to take a chance on playing a new freestyle song. They rather stick to the classics. Why? It's simple, like it or not freestyle has a huge following especially in NYC and the Tri-State area so any dance friendly station would have to play it. The freestyle free for all on KTU with Judy Torres averages a million listeners every sunday night so there is a market out there for freestyle.

However,I don't want a repeat of 1988,but what i would like to see is at least one new freestyle song given a chance on Pulse for starters. There is quality freestyle material out there from the new Carlos Berrios CD (K7,George Lamond and some new talent) to the new cd from Sharyn Maceren which is progressive freestyle that is not too different from the pseudo freestyle r&b/pop songs that are hits from Snoop Dogg or Ciara,etc..

Cool! That was my point. :)

If there is new freestyle that can get out there, and catches a HUGE BUZZ, then by all means Pulse should get on top of it. Slowly but surely....see if a new audience can come out of it in the process. And if that's the case, then Pulse should add a few more here and there. I just don't want to see Pulse become another 'KTU or Mix 102.7.

I think you all are looking into this way too much. Give the station some time to breath. Freestyle is a huge part of the New York dance scene. Got to Beatstock and see which artists get the biggest pop. The people cheering for them are the younger demos. If the Pulse is going after an 18-34, late 80-s early 90's fits. Joel has been not affraid to add music. Joel and I both jumped on the Crazy Loop single and it will be a big track.

I guess you do have a good point Dancerev889, and trust me I intend on continuing to listen. NY has waited long enough for a station like this to happen again. I know it's only the beginning.

I dont see nothing wrong with playing a new freestyle song BUT the song should have a story... it should already be gaining ground in the clubs or elsewhere. Either that or the song should be really great and groundbreaking. I havent kept up with new Freestyle but when I did do some research to hear new artists, I never heard anything great... come to think of it - many of the singers were either singing flat, off key, or the production wasnt up to par... if someone knows of a new artist whos making quality freestyle then please do let me know.... I do feel that right now is the perfect time for freestyle to make a little comeback since the beats in Hip Hop are fast and similar (Snoop, Ying Yang, Colby Odonis, etc)- also, Casely - Emotional samples Fantasy Girl and uses the strings to make a r&b song in cut time (half the bpms)...

Pulse doesnt play many classics so I dont see how the poster can rant about it... and when they do play a classic, they play a song I havent heard on radio in ages.

and lastly - KTU and Pulse shouldnt be uttered in the same sentence... nothing similar about them... KTU isnt relevant anymore...

New Freestyle= Joe Zangie. He performs with Rockell. His last two singles did very well for us. He is a South Jersey freestyle legend.

you know, rockell and judy torres both released 2 new freestyle songs late spring-mid summer last year and NO ONE on any FM dance radio outlet, except my station, touched them....

If Pulse is looking for some partially new freestyle, Judy Torres' " I Don't" and Rockell's "Playin' My Love" are excellent tracks..

:)

"I Don't" wasn't a freestyle record. Just a dance cover done by a freestyle artist. Same with Rockell's track.

There is rarely a decent "freestyle" track ever done anymore. In fact, the only decent one I've heard in the last couple of years is "Weakness of the Heart" by Krista.

As for Pulse playing freestyle, they'd be stupid not too. It's core music for the metro and any "dance" station is going to have to play it to draw an audience.

What about some of the tracks Miamis power 96 has been playing.. Colby Odonis has a song called What you want f akon that has a freestyle feel...
