W244AS is a translator on 96.7 in Oakhurst, NJ (near Asbury Park), which normally retransmits the audio of NYC's 96.3 WQXR on an overmodulated mono signal. For the past few weeks, however, it seems like either W244AS's receiving antenna (to pick up WQXR's signal) has either gotten knocked out of alignment, or their receiver has been knocked off-channel, because while you can still hear WQXR being rebroadcasted on 96.7, W244AS's audio is now so full of noise and static that it renders them completely unlistenable. Their transmitted signal -- claimed to be only 8 watts, but it seems to have much greater coverage than that -- is the same as always; however, it is now just serving as a useless noisemaker on the band.

Of course, an even better solution would be to simply shut down W244AS and turn in its license... they serve no real purpose anyway, as WQXR's main signal on 96.3 comes in just fine in the entire area that W244AS is designed to cover.
