Today at the KofP Mall, most stores had various stations and music playing. A bit after 7PM, these same stores had YSP on, I asked a few people and they said they loved the music, but not the talk. I have to admit they were Rockin' tonight. WHY DONT THESE EXEC'S GET IT. Drop the damn talk and play Rock after O&A, people want to hear Active Rock in this area, no matter what anyone says. I hope somebody else rolls with the ball and YSP can just dry the hell up. Why are they teasing the listener with a spattering of music, in-between the chatter and soon the Eagles all over the place. I wish it would be JJZ that does it, be it automated or whatever, just do it. BTW I was right about 98.5.

MMR, poor excuse for anything similar to an Active Rocker, BUT, best showing in over 20 years. Listeners would rather hear what they are brewing than YSP's talk or Urban. XTU, best showing since its birth. WHY??? just take a listen to the Philly dial, people are flocking to any format in no way related to Urban. Rap and Hip Hop stations way down. I don't know what more I can tell you, the media again is dictating Active Rock and Alternative are dead and Rap/Hip Hop are thriving. People believe what they are fed and if the younger generation is only exposed to what is shown to them now, they think its the only thing around. In the 60's, most Philly jocks made you think Soul/R&B and Motown was the only music made, when in fact the British, Beach/Surf and Folk sounds were hotter, but people were ignorant of this. I remember someone asking me who the Dave Clark Five were, who had many top 10 hits, but they knew the group Bandwagon, which had a song that made 105 for a few weeks. Its just what is presented.

Ratings are one thing, but how is the BILLING?

If the station bills well, ratings, up or down, doesn't make that much of a difference.

I don't even know if Billing means anything, Y-100 was always in the top 7 stations, when it came to billing numbers and what did Urban Friendly R1 do, flip them anyway. Its how the media mind controls the head honchos, unless its a minority owned company like R1. If R1 enters a market where all the stations were Urban and there was no Rock, Country or Oldies, they would still go Urban. I know for a fact, CBS is pleased with YSP's certain numbers, even though they are out of it. I think in time YSP will be yakking 24/7, no matter what the Rock listener demands.
