Will someone please coach Jimmy Baron?

His rants are just too much, too trite and too 1-sided. How many times will he talk about Carrie Prejean? Sarah Palin? Who cares?? I’d listen to The Bert Show if I wanted to hear one-sided, ignorant opinion (no offense Bert Show, you’re very good at what you do and your demo fits the chit chat). It feels like he’s just saying what he THINKS his audience wants to hear. I know Jimmy has a lot of friends on this board, but he’s going down with his gibberish.

I agree, you would think after 13 years on the air he would know this. As a DAVE-FM listener, and future PD, I don't care at all about that stupid twit and what she as to say, and I don't care for Palin either. Why doesn't Jimmy get that? Why are all his rants one-sided? It's like he's not even listening to the other voices in his head, just the one he's had for 48 years.

Bring Back Zakk!

Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the Palin and Prejean stories were fairly big and all over TV non-stop. In fact, I haven't heard anyone NOT talking about them. But your other point is excellent... he needs to stop his one-sided opinions and give more balanced points of view like Wachs, Von Haessler, Boortz, Hannity, Rush, etc. Those guys know how to present both sides of the coin!

Until terrestrial radio invests in the product (dream on) you're going to hear the SOS: Jocks trying to be funny, 10th caller contests and interviews and comments based on last night's TV. Listening to C&R and S&V you'd think Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and John and Kate + 8 each deliver a 50 share.

Here's why: 21 professional writers, plus the cast, contribute to each episode of The Office - for 20 minutes of content - once a week.
What's the maximum number of contributors to a local morning show - 3,4 maybe 5? BTW: That number includes the "producer" (gopher) that edits the American Idol drop-ins.....

A majority of morning show talent are under the false assumption that they must do "bits" 4-6 times an hour, 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Robin freekin' Williams couldn't pull that off.

Jimmy is at his best when he has a smart team to play on, with and against. Transitioning to solo monologues (I don't believe Yvonne or the traffic guy add a single substantive thing) is VERY difficult. The PD and GM have got to grasp that they'll be wasting both time and a major talent if they don't invest and give him what even he knows he needs, co-stars.

Jax - Agree that's Jimmy's at his best as a cast member. Disagree that he needs "Stars" around him to make the show better. More people fighting for air time and laughing nervously at everything each other says isn't going to change a thing. As a PD or consultant to a morning show my first coaching message is: Be smart not silly.

I agree with Uriah. You need one star and other players to support strongly. Jimmy has actually surprised me thusfar as I was expecting him to sound kinda tired. But he's starting to have fun a lot more, taking good calls (which he's always been good at), busting up with Monet and Carter, and it just sounds a bit looser. The time off seems to have been good for him. Yvonne is also showing signs of good personality and that could really be a boost. They have a ways to go but it's not bad. Word around town, by the way, is that this PD another Rick Caffey doozie with HUGE personality issues.

Jimmy loves the sound of Jimmy's voice. He probably talks in his sleep too
Probably but, then again, you could probably say that about everyone on the air to some degree.

okay so Jimmy's got the TRG formula down...

he needs to stop his one-sided opinions and give more balanced points of view like Wachs, Von Haessler, Boortz, Hannity, Rush, etc. Those guys know how to present both sides of the coin!

i love the smell of sarcasm on a Friday.
