Will Sophie make it to 2012?

I know this is a recurring topic on this board, but it seems her numbers get worse and worse each month. I guess we'll get December numbers tomorrow, but my gut says Sophie will be out at the beginning of the year. The only English speaking music stations doing worst than Sophie are KPRI and KBZT. I just can't see CBS, who only has two stations in the market, holding on to this station. Any thoughts? If I remember correctly, isn't the 103.7 signal a pretty strong signal? My guess = A VERY focused top 40 with a slight rhythmic lean like AMP in LA. This has been rumored for a while though on this board so who knows?

AMP 103.7 or 103.7 NOW!

ooh maybe V103 but that wouldn't work in a San Diego Market since there is no Urban Stations now that z90 went Rhythmic Top 40

KYXY and KSCF have been up for sale for the last several years. If someone made CBS a decent offer I sure they would sell them in a heartbeat. Just like Lincoln would probably sell their cluster for the right price. But since there's not a whole lot of buyers for stations right now they just sit and wait.

Companys have made decent offers on the stations, but CBS wants ridiculous money for them! They are trying to get 1999/2000 prices! They want more than KGB/KPOP sold for in 1997

Unfortunately no one has the money to purchase these stations and it seems like CBS won't put anything into them. The November numbers came out and it looks as though Sophie has risen about a .4 share, but competing with Star seems to be a hard battle to win. A lot of the at work numbers are going to KYXY as well, and I think they'll do anything to protect that station as long as Jeff & Jer are there. A lot of people have mentioned the "AMP" and "NOW" formats on this board, but with Z90 in the picture, would that saturate the format too much? I can think of plenty of markets who are more cluttered with Top 40 and I can't think of any clear format holes. Channel has a cume of 923k, that's 200k more than the number two cuming station, sure there is some money to be made there. I guess the speculation will continue until a change is made! I like the idea of an Urban station, maybe the "Blazin" format is a little exhausted, but CBS only has three Urban stations total; one in Charlotte, NC, one in Atlanta and one in DC. The station in DC has become a sort of Top 40/R as it is so I don't think they'd try that in a market like San Diego.

Of course LA and San Diego are different markets so its not an exact apples to apples comparision, but the arrival of KAMP didn't cannibalize KIIS or KPWR. I would expect a similar effect in SD, where the market may actually be a little underserved in CHR/Rhythmic CHR and a little overserved in struggling formats like alternative, Modern AC, etc.
