Name Change?! St. John is changing his name? Going back to being Jeff St. John?

I think sfradio was implying that the station would change it's name with its increased CHR orientation. Apparently, a few CBS stations in other markets are doing this.

Too bad the station's not at 102.1, eh KIFR? Q-99-7 doesn't do that catchy rhyming thing.

102.1 is just waiting for that name change.

If MOViN changes their name it should be, "Oh Thank Heaven its 997"

Cute. I just had a radio flashback. In the early 70s, KMET in Los Angeles had a jingle sung by the great a cappella group The Persuasions. It went:

Little Bit o' Heaven,
Ninety-four point seven,
KMET,
Tweedle-dee.

Sorry, it's been done.

Is it me, or is that a corny motto: "Amp Radio"?

I suppose it's a better motto than "Equalizer Radio"...

How about 99.7 FM be renamed "FM100, Your Hit Music Station?"

It doesn't do anything for me, but I guess it's supposed to invoke an image of high energy - as in "amped up" and - "turn it up loud."

Interesting info in laradio.com about it this morning. The new CHR hybrid format will replace 97.1 FM Talk (also billed as Free FM for a year or so). So much for talk-radio on the FM band in market #2.

In charge of all this is Kevin Weatherly - former PD now CBS VP or programming who also runs things as KROQ and Jack FM there. According to Weatherly, the format has been tested and refined on HD2 and on the internet.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that this format will find it's way to the Bay Area. CBS often seems clueless about the Bay Area market...for example, the dichotomy between Classic Hits sister stations K-Earth and the inferior 106.9 KFRC.

CBS may have more success in the Bay Area now that Michael Martin is in the building. He seemed to be pretty successful running WILD and Clear Channel's SF cluster.

I just heard "KMVQ San Francisco San José".

They added San José but forgot Oakland.

Not to reawaken the top-of-the-hour legal ID discussion, but the FCC requires call letters and city of license, which in this case is "KMVQ, KMVQ HD1, San Francisco." After that, they can say anything they want, as long as it isn't profane.
