Will The Big Talker Survive?

Uh-oh! When a thread degenerates to discussing parts of the anatomy, male OR female, it is time to pray for some major announcement. Otherwise, it looks like this board is running out of steam.

H-i-s-s-s-s-s.

(I wonder if anyone has asked the players in this little soap opera what they plan to do. Think I'll go see if Brantley or Pirkle are listed in the telephone directory.)

Dolly Parton boobie jokes will never go out of style. No offense intended, however. Allow me to return this thread to its original elevated level of discourse:

Mr. Reeves would not have a Norris Lake sales office/bass boat. Regardless of the tax deductible aspects, it's too far away from his bar stool at Centennial. And one of Eddie Roy's descendants has been designing a new patch that will fit nicely on a blue blazer.

Looking at the station rankings on another page on this site, Citadel has four stations in the top ten. Including 94.3, so does South Central. Journal has two. That's the way it is as of today. Sober or alcohol-fueled speculation on how that will look this time next year. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Please let this "Hank" thing be a joke! After Jack, Earl and Merle, the name novelty thing has worn out its welcome.

I'd like to see them keep it simple, especially since they appear to be keeping the call letters. "Knoxville's Big Country, 100 WNOX" sounds like a winner to me. Hank sounds cheesy.
And Hank is classic country.

On the stronger signal you want Knoxville's Big Country, 100.3 WOKI. Or OK-100.

I have it on good authority that they might just be doing a rock format. Another radio worker ant I'm familiar with has a client who is doing some web work for them. The website they're developing is "X-Rock 100.3" and the banner is, "Heard It On The X"

That has a nice mid-1970s Border Blaster ring to it. As in "X-ROCK 80, North America's Most Powerful Radio Station."

"X-ROCK 100.3, East Tennessee's Most Powerful Radio Station?" Hmmm.....

They have rock, country and chr format history so we know they have those catalogs. Everyone is projecting they'll go country, but how many of us remember the only format other than country that took a large bite out of WIVK? That's right, 'frog busters' on WIMZ. It makes so much more sense to me now that they might do a rock format and take on WIVK AND WIMZ.

actually the first to beat wivk was WRJZ.

In a specific demo? Or ???? Because WRJZ never beat WIVK in the book.

April/May - 77
WIVK - 23.1 / WRJZ - 17.9

April/May - 78
WIVK - 24.2 / WRJZ - 18.4

April/May - 79
WIVK - 28.9 / WRJZ - 19.0

April/May - 80
WIVK - 29.0 / WRJZ 15.0

...and then WRJZ went country and was never heard from again.

Ok, so maybe the big, fat, grandfathered class C monster @ 100.3 will be rock or CHR instead of country.

I know 2 things about this for certain:
1. This is the most talked about thing about East TN radio in a loooooong, loooooooooong time.
2. We'll know for sure what the format is in August when it debuts. (couldn't resist the obvious on this one)

If all that is hoped for comes true, we could see a great shuffle of formats, some real competition, some great music, etc. And guess who wins? The station owners and potentially, the listeners. I hope some of the $$ flow to the station workers too... not just the suits. Yeah, I know it probably won't.

Bottom line: I just hope the wait is worth the hype!

Peace out ;D

Fiveahead needs to cut the dose. His frequent hallucinations are cluttering this bunch of rumor and innuendo with sheer made up stupidity.

WIVK never sniffed a 25 share until they hired the Research Group in the Early 80's. They were beaten at different times by WRJZ, WIMZ and even WEZK in the late 70's and early 80's.

Spreading baseless rumours is one thing. That's called the Internet. Just making crap up is a waste of everybody's time. That's called the National Enquirer.

Speaking of "made up" stuff, check this out, Dog!
IF WRJZ were on the air now with those same numbers, they would beat WIVK in every one of those books, because El Froggo now has a 15, right?

By now I am sure Pirkle and Brantley have read Elkhosen's prediction and shelved their plans to front the George Jones concert. Instead, they will buy into that prediction, and go European Techno-Rock. Or something.

Love,
BB

C'mon Mike. Do you actually still think you're the smartest guy in the market after all these years of being wrong?

Check it out - http://ktownradio.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html, you're looking for the Jan. 11 post.

All I see are 6a-10am numbers. No one is disupting that Claude didn't get beat. You said WIVK never got beat and that is totally inaccurate.

I apologize for accusing you of making stuff up. You simply didn't read it before you quoted it.

Are you saying they are moving 94.3's format over to 100.3? Or did they just forget that Knoxville already has an "X" station?

Another X station? Perhaps. Okay, that would make 2. But, if they change the 94.3 calls from WNFZ to WNOX, there would be THREE of those babies!

I love this business.

Hope and change to all,
BB

What Elkhosen said. It's past due.
