The NBA is formalizing written contracts with Disney, NBC and Amazon this week, the final stage of media rights negotiations that may inevitably lead incumbent Warner Bros. Discovery to take legal action.

ESPN has awful coverage of the NBA. It would be a shame for TNT to lose out. In the end the viewer will be hurt the most.

NBATV is an afterthought, as it's always been. It airs unappealing regular-season games, games from overseas leagues, and rerun after rerun of moldy old games. The addition of Amazon to a rights package that would also include ESPN and NBC would make NBATV even more irrelevant.

Yes, but compared to what the NFL and MLB are doing with their channels -- attractive match-ups, postseason games -- the NBA seems barely aware that it has a channel. It's like the wide gap between ESPN and the CBS Sports Network. The former is the "worldwide leader," while the latter shows bowling and rodeo and Bucknell vs. Lafayette and hardly lets anyone know it exists.

this shouldve been the case a long time ago. If cbs wasn’t willing to partner with WBD to show games, why did WBD think they were actually in competition with nbc for rights? drifting tnt/max aside for amazon is a bad idea in more ways than one

Yes, Pelicans playoff games and home Orlando Magic playoff games. It’s an afterthought. I’m friends with several on that network. They know it’s an afterthought too

Costas is long gone from NBC. So is the Roundball Rock theme music, which is now used by Fox for its college basketball games.

Will NBC be able to spend enough get a portion of the NBA package? If so, I heard they may put some games exclusively on peacock. Why not put some games on the USA Network as well?

Because streaming is the future where cable TV networks are rapidly becoming an albatross.

This will help them in terms of ratings for USA and reduce the number of cable subscriptions loss for Comcast.

Consumers considering 'cord cutting' aren't going to keep a cable subscription for one single channel that carries occasional NBA games. This is especially true if they can watch the game on-demand via a streaming service like Peacock.
