Talk about falling off the radar screen. I'm in Upstae NY, so I'm
over-taxed and out-of-touch, but wondering where the Boy Wonder is
these days. I know CC kicked him "upstairs". In other words, here's
a pile of money, go play in the corner. And no talking. Heard he was
buying up CPs. Any thoughts that he may emerge soon with a renegade
radio bunch to wreak havoc upon this sterile snoozefest known as
corporate radio?

His company, RadioActive LLC, has won some FM allotment bids and is the running for a few more, mostly in small markets scattered throughout the country.

I believe he and his company will carve out a niche, but I don't think they will have the resources to wreak havoc on corporate radio. And let's not forget, Randy spearheaded the corporate programming mentality when he was at Clear Channel. He coined the phrase, "synergy". He helped create complicated org charts with market managers, regional program directors, format program directors, AM market sales managers, etc. There were so many dotted lines, it was like being in a Dilbert strip. He installed the cookie-cutter KISS and MIX formats, and was a big advocate of the Prophet voice-tracking system. I know...I was there when it happened.

If he builds a chain of stations, I would expect the same corporate policies will be implemented. Money is tight in radio, so most chains need to implement cost-cutting measures.
