Will the solar flare have an effect on DXing?

It already has affected DX'ing.

This A.M. at sunrise, the X-band was loaded with strong signals.

Tonight could be interesting.

If it happened in June, would it trigger an e-skip outbreak?

I do remember in the past there have been reports of a solar flare and a few days later multiple e-skip clouds over much of the country lasting a long time with a MUF above 108.

Car radio from NE NC morning commute today. Strong signals from Ohio. Usually get NYC and Philly. This was around 8 AM EST. Sounded like it would be at 6 AM. Will check again at noon.

Usually solar flares will cause spectacular auroras in the Northern US. I did get a lot of S stuff last night, KYNO 940 was in like a local. I couldn't DX for long because I have a very bad cold/cough.

Solar flares don't have any effect on e skip.

They will affect F2 skip, however.

From NE NC. Nothing unusual heard at noon. Car radio. WFAN 660 was full copy but weak. Normal for this time of year. X band quiet.

Around 11AM in Central VA, did a bandscan on both the truck radio and my Grundig, and didn't find anything unusual stationwise, but I have noticed a persistent buzz for the last couple of nights.

Interested to see what tonight may bring though.

A few hours ago just east of Columbus, Ohio, a quick bandscan showed all the big Chicago 50Ks coming in loud and clear (as usual) - expect for WSCR. It was nowhere to be found behind a weak Spanish-language station; I presume the Cuban that used to clobber it here 15-20 years ago. Didn't hear Radio Reloj on 570 or 790, but will check back later this evening after midnight. The rain's moved out and the sky is clearing, so maybe that will make a difference.

For me, the AM band has been completely DEAD. Late in the evening I can start hearing some of the stronger AMs I usually get at night with very weak signals. Around 8 pm today, all I could hear were the 4 local AMs and 3 from Montreal weakly. That was it.

Oh baby, I've just returned home and my car radio was full of non-US Spanish stations. I've never heard it like this before. Cubans all over the dial. Presumed Cubans heard on 530, 540, 570, 600, 670, 710. Mexico (with multiple federal government public service ads, along with an ad for Pemex) on 830, coming in like a local. 'Radio Nacional' on 550 (not sure if Columbia or Venezuela). More heard on 900 and 910. It was crazy...or should I say 'loco'? :D

Around 2am last night I was hearing light piano music (classical?) on 1060 with no sign of KYW at all. The top of the hour ID was in Spanish, so I have no idea where it was coming from.

Quite possible it's Mexico City's Radio Educación 1060. They have a musical program during the over night hours, with classical being a good bet.

If conditions are good again tonight, you can check it against the stream here ~> http://tunein.com/radio/Radio-Educación-1060-s24497/

Did hear a little Spanish here and there on the dial around midnight to 1AM, but honestly it was faint and with so many Spanish AM's in the DC Metro area, its hard to tell where it was coming from. Many were fading in and out so much I couldn't get any ID's. Still nothing too noteworthy. I'm kinda disappointed, I wanted some faraway stuff to boom in..........

A half-hour ago here in central Ohio, WMVP was the only Chicago station coming in well. WSCR was hidden by a Cuban and WGN was very weak next to an obvious Cuban on 710. Now they're all in at pretty much normal strength, although WLS is fighting it out with a Spanish-language station.

I think WSCR was off the air for transmitter maintenance

Unusual AM conditions this morning in Kansas - no reception of stations to the north (Chicago or Minneapolis) or East (Louisville, Atlanta, Cincinnati). Stations strong as usual from Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Colorado. El Paso on 690 unusually strong and Mexican signals strong everywhere. Country music station from Jackson Mississippi alone on 780 - no WBBM.

No sign of CHWO in Tennessee last night (around 8pm), 740 was dominated by Tulsa. Also for a time WSCR was gone and I only had the Cuban., WGN was there though. Got the Plant City FL on 550 alone.
