Will Tom Leykis come back to the air?

Leykis is still under contract by CBS until 2012. He told listeners that he probably won't be on the air until that contract expires because he doesn't mind "not doing anything and getting paid for it", so there you go.

If FHF can come back then certainly Leykis will come back, right?

Not a chance we'll see Tom back on the air anytime soon. He has even abandoned his myspace page & blog. He is too busy collecting his $1.5 million dollar a year paycheck that he will have until 2012. Drinking merlot at his Santa Ynez valley 20 acre ranch and traveling to South America & Europe. Life is good...for Tom!

He will be back before this year is over, or the beginning of next year. You really think Bob Moore would allow his buddy to just sit there and do nothing??? KABC is going hot talk, and Leykis is the centerpiece around that...

Tom's a very bright guy, and just as comfortable talking about politics (as he did when he was on the am dial) as he is about women...

...the only way that'll happen is if Citadel somehow comes up with the money to buy Leykis' contract with CBS. Tom's "pulling a Lujack," if you will. Back in 1976, WCFL Chicago thought that they could get Larry Lujack to beg out of their contract with him by switching the format from Top 40 to elevator music; as it turned out, Lujack wasn't about to budge, sitting back in his chair for 59 minutes out of his four-hour afternoon drive shift, cracking the mic open two times an hour, turning the monitor up every time "A Summer Place" came up in the rotation and continuing to take home that six-figure per annum paycheck. As it turned out, across-the-Chicago-River WLS was on the outs with their morning driver, Fred Winston, and ABC decided to buy out Lujack's contract with the CFL and plug Ol' Supe back into the WLS morning drive slot he'd quit in '72. Leykis is playing the exact same game with CBS, waiting for someone else who needs radio @$$ to be kicked and chilling out with the paychecks until that moment that the CBS contract is either bought or expires...

Do you really think anyone would buyout Tom's contract right now at the state the economy is? Do you really think he WANTS to work when he's at his ranch sipping merlot all day getting paid? You guys are forgetting this guy is Tom Leykis. He doesn't spend a dollar on hisdates with many of his "women", do you really think he would get out of a contract to WORK again? He stated on air that he admires the CBS staff and all that they've done for him, and if "he has to bow out, he would bow out, but as long as CBS cuts their part of the bargain (which is to pay him), he'd be fine with that". His contract runs until 2012, so don't expect to see him anywhere until then. Even at that time, who could afford to pick him up? Leykis doesn't run cheap, and he shouldn't run cheap. Leykis is a powerful LA personality, I would say his listeners are as loyal as John and Ken listeners, maybe even more. KLOS as Hot Talk though? I would say instead of that, if Citadel was smart and they wanted to do something with KLOS,flip to a music intensive format. Hot Talk is just too much of a risky format and simulcasting KABC is also a risky move. Maybe even flipping to another Top 40 like I stated in a post below, or just stick with what you have. KLOS doesn't have many problems, it actually has a stable audience. People listening yesterday are probably going to listen today and probably tomorrow.

...perhaps, especially if the same company in question was goofy enough to hire Don Imus and Mike Huckabee ;-) ...

I can just picture Tom walking the streets of LA after hours bumping into former listeners who quip "Hey, you're Tom Leykis from (pausing to strain memory) " or worse yet "Hey, didn't you used to be Tom Leykis?" I'm sure only half a dozen such encounters will have Tom beating down the studio doors saying "Let me on-the-air!" Attention piggie needs to feed. ;-)

hahaha, just kidding, I was a huge Leykis fan from his KFI days and got quite sad when I heard the opening of Bruce Hornsby's "That's Just The Way It Is" because I knew the fun was done for the day. :'-(

Bring back Leykis, but make sure it's Tom "KFI" Leykis, please. :)

Oh, and bring back the emoticons too! :p

I too remember the early 90's KFI Tom Leykis that would play Bruce Hornsby's "That's Just The Way It Is." Those were some good times and great radio!

"KLSX" Leykis is dead and will never comeback. On the AM dial "KFI" Leykis can make a comeback. Tom should have stuck with politics. That is why even though his paycheck is nice. It's peanuts compared to what others have made having a national audience like Rush & Hannity on the right & Ed Shultz & Maddow on the left.

If he really was no.1 in afternoon drive before the talk format on KLSX was scrapped there has got to be a station ready to put him on.

...on KLSX in the last seven months or so, Leykis was going back to the KFI type he did in the '90s. Problem was, he was doing that during the first three years or so of the syndicated show and there were damned few takers. At least one "affiliate" that I know of -- WOSH in Oshkosh, Wisconsin -- put him on for a single week in November 1994 and then yanked the show just to "prove" that All-Fascists-All-The-Time wouldn't work...

because the FM Talk format will not comeback to L.A. ever again. At least not the KLSX hot talk let me sign your rack type of format. Those days are history! Tom will never do a show like that again! Mark my words!

Really now, if you were getting paid $100,000 a month to sit on the veranda at your ranch and simply enjoy life, would you even consider re-entering the world of meddlesome PDs hotlining you, Managers throwing you under the bus the minute you say something some client doesn't like and sales people who want you to endorse the latest penis enlargement pill or mortgage loan scam? C'mon, we all know the answer to that.

Tom can proudly look back on a successful broadcast career, the memories of which will only grow rosier over time. He is free to do whatever he likes; write a book or a screenplay, travel, build a winery, breed ostriches, whatever. Why look back? This time, the on air personality won. Good for you Tom.

Now, can you take me out with a bong hit?

Why wouldn't it!?! It was such a high biller for CBS, it only went off the air because of the bad economy! If you really listened to KLSX you would know it wasn't just all "signing racks!" FM hot talk will FOR SURE be back soon! MARK MY WORDS!
