Will WBCN 104.1 Go Talk?

There has been some earlier discussion here whether WBZ will switch all its talk to 'BCN and leave 1030 all news all the time as WINS does in New York City.

Listened to the post Pat's game talk on WBN last night and the sound quality would make it an excellent facility for talk. For distance they can go streaming.

Won't be surprised if Jay Severin shows up back on FM but at 104.1 not 96.9.

Here Is Hoping!....

...can't wait for Leykis to be back in town! ;)

very smart money say you guys are right..

Re: Here Is Hoping!....

While I think there may well be a "Free FM" station in Boston, WBCN-104.1 won't be it.

There's a very slight chance it could be WODS-103.3, but it's much more likely that it will be WZLX-100.7.

I don't think they have a fireplace in the studio...........

Hey I dont know if you were being sarcastic when you posted this but I have to say when Leykis did Mid Days for that one year at RKO he was brilliant, I thought. Now, of course,.........well,.............let's just ay he was brilliant at RKO.Lol

Ps....... Bcn, not going talk.

Re: Here Is Hoping!....

If it's anything, it'd be ZLX, however, one would think Infinity would have made the announcement already when they did all the others. Here's hoping that they wait and see how FreeFM goes...its ratings fizzle, and Boston is spared losing another FM signal to mundance chatter...

This being Boston, the only talking that belongs on the FM dial is probably sports...

I hope it's neither WBCN or WZLX personally, but Beau Raines is leaving soon...

It would be a shame to lose WZLX, as I've always considered them the "gold standard" of classic rock stations in this part of the country. Time will tell I suppose...<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Here Is Hoping it isn't!....

ZLX just spent a pretty good chunk of change on television advertising which seems to indicate they're not thinking of changing the format anytime soon.

Re: BLOW ME UP TOM

"Brilliant" is hardly a term for a wife beater.

Anyone can bash a Mayor or be racist instead of competitive,
till the Catholic Church finally ousts the offenders (from the
radio rather than the rectory). The motley crue of Leykis,
O & A, even Howie Carr with his tiresome histrionics, all evidence
that radio is not what it could be; not what it used to be.

WBCN would be better served with a mixture of Boston Phoenix
writers as on-air hosts, and a real return to Harvard Square.

I will take faux hip any day over faux radio.

Put pretentious hippy snobs back on the air and get rid
of the propaganda. At least snob hippies play good music.

Nirvana dance mixes, a little house music mixed in with Janis
Joplin's Mercedes Benz

It would be refreshing to hear new mixes of old classic rock.
If this isn't for WBCN, why not give it to WZLX - a station
who seems to be drifting away from its heyday

OH? Parenteau has been referred to by you yourself as "brilliant" so admitted and incarcerated pedphiles are ok but alleged wife beaters are not? what he does off air isnt anybody's biz, it's what he did on air that shold be the topic of discussion.

Guess what? no one would listen to that, NO ONE.Plus do you really think the owner of wfnx would allow a bunch of Phoenix writers to be hosts on WBCN? You're crazy!.

What you described is available in most malls, it's called an Ipod and I suggest you try it.

They did? There's the new Magic spots, the Mike FM spots, the WBZ 1030 spots (on WBZ-4, of course) and I thought that was it.

(There were those relaxing/chill ads for WCRB, but I doubt those mean much these days)

Give it up.

Promoting yourself? Or just the paper that considers "Nothing like a _hit" good music? Give it up.

Oh my god, will it never end?. Look Im talking about the show he did when he was on mid days at RKO, end of discussion. As for the "wife beater" allengation the only place I ever read that was the Inside track, not known as a bastian of journalistic excellence and it's really nobody's business what did or did not happen between he and his wife, they're still together so if she is comfortable in the situation and it has been resolved it's not your place to judge. Need I remind you that one of your most favorite personalities that you have frequently posted positively about on this board very recently, is in JAIL right now; an admitted/convicted felon and child molester, who is incarcerated for among other things paying for sex with an underage boy?. So does that lessen his glorious moments on air which happened long before any of his pathetic recent episodes? I would say no. You cant judge those you like and those you dislike by different standards. Also given the two situations in question, almost anyone could have ended up in the situation Leykis was in, an argument gets heated and according to him she started whacking him he pushed her away and she landed in the fireplace, obviously the wrong way to handle any dispute but anyone could have ended up in that situation under the right circumstances. I dont know anyone that could have ended up in Parenteau's situation, that is just EVIL.

Phoenix writers? so few people are even reading the Phoenix hence it's had to become a free paper after being for sale for almost 25 years and there's no way in hell that they would be able to do talk radio on any other station besides Boston Phoenix Radio, who doesnt know that one?.

The bottom line is that WBCN is not changing formats anytime soon,, WZLX is not changing formats anytime soon, that's about it.

Re: BLOW ME UP TOM

The story about Tom Lykis went far beyond the Inside Track. I believe it was also in The Boston Globe and Howie Carr speaks about it often. During a WRKO Chirstmas Party, The Boston Globe, reported as well as Carr, Lykis threw his wife into the fireplace. It didn't say whether there was a fire in the fireplace but I believe the Boston Police were called in.
Frankly, I don't think he would be too welcome back in Boston. Can only imagine Wendy Murphy going after him for his wife beating as well she should on this account.
Met Lykis on several occasions. As the Dean would say, "not a nice guy".

I know that the Globe did report it too but the track really made it their mission to get him out of town, as for Howie? well is there anyone he DOES like?. As for Leykis not being a nice guy, I dont know. I do know this: A few years ago when I was syndicated with Westwood One I went to LA for some Mtv thing and I stopped into Westwood One at the invitation of my producer who's boyfriend worked for Leykis as his board op or something. So I watched him do the show; hysterical!. For starters he has what has got to be about a twenty min. show intro because according to his staff he doesnt usualy walk into the building until about 3:10-3:15............. Everything you've heard is true. It's 3:30pm or so, there he is in a darkened studio, wearing his sunglasses indoors, in the dark. He is an enormous man so he is wearing what looks very much like a moo moo. He does his show, glass of red wine in hand, in the middle of the afternoon, all by himself in the studo. Everyone else in the control room, I thought to myself this must be what Priscilla saw just a few months before she moved out of Graceland!.

You couldn't "beat" him. As for Leykis' wife, well...but they settled all
that with the spousal abuse classes once he hit L.A. I heard bits of his
show more recently from a tape trader and it seemed to me like the issues...you...really...
care... about sounded more like Babba Booey "relationship" talk. Not exactly politics.

I do remember calling up Tom once when the issue was Bono's swear at the
Grammys. I also saw him do a live remote from the Liberty Tree Mall and chatted with him off-air briefly. Then a few weeks later I'm settling down to
pizza at Bertucci's and read "DJ" (that's what they call talk hosts) "Accused
of Spousal Abuse" in my papers.

Re: BLOW ME UP TOM

> The story about Tom Lykis

Leykis (sp) by the way... :)
Some feel Howie was the one who spilled the beans on him.

Leykis was kicked in the head in Seattle last year by a displeased listener:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1200074/posts

He once went on Tai's show on WFNX by phone (Tai and he had worked together previously in Albany NY) and explained that fateful night in the Back Bay,
when 'RKO had an open bar...something like "my wife wanted to talk to me
about something she felt was important but I was too tired--I had to get up
the next morning and do my show". Tempers flared and, as Howie put it,
"he mistook his wife for a Duraflame log".

From The Smoking Gun:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/leykis1.html

>>Leykis then allegedly "pushed the victim's head into a brick fireplace" and "threatened to kill her,"

They ran :15's - bought 7 stations deep. I saw them on CBS-4, Fox Sports Net, and WSBK.
