It should be noted that other CBS-owned sports stations, particularly in Philadelphia and now in Dallas, sometimes has their hosts discuss something that is male-oriented, but not necessarily sports. If I remember correctly, the roots of this can be traced back to Tom Bigby, who as PD of Philly's WIP, encouraged hosts to appeal to their demo with "guy talk" topics every now and then.
Anyway, a quote from WBZ-FM's new PD in an article from today's Globe is quite eye-opening when scrutinized:
"Giving Boston an alternative to sports radio is going to be our advantage..."
"An alternative to sports radio?" Granted, that may have been misworded, but given the success of other CBS sports radio outlets under the tutelage of Tom Bigby, one must wonder how much "guy talk," particularly outside of Toucher & Rich in the morning, listeners should expect on the new "Sports Hub".
