Will WGNA finally have Competition in 2009???

The only signals in the Albany market where a Country competitor could hope to do damage to GNA would be
92.3, 95.5, 99.5 and 106.5. Otherwise, the signals aren't strong enough to provide coverage and substantially penetrate the key zips and the dollars committed to research and marketing would be limited by the organization's need to support its biggest signals. WGNA is so well-entrenched that it would take a 3-5 year commitment to a solid gameplan in order to get the job done.
 
Hey Reporter! Happy New Year! Why would ABC bother - if you recall, 96.3 was once WPTR, before it was JAMZ it was yee-haw country. WGNA's listeners are SO loyal they would NEVER listen to anything else - take it from me - I once had a gig there!

(But y'know it would be hee-haw-larious if ABC tried ountry again - I bet they'd flip MAGIC because despite the high ratings, they have trouble selling it!)

He is correct...You would need another signal that was capable of reaching the trailer parks....
 
Unfortunately, GNA will be #1 for a long time, unless multilple stations go country, giving variety. A "bird" feed might give them a run for their money. Their smart move would be to take over 103.5, simulcast and rule out the possibilty of competition. They would be HUGE, and be in both the Albany market, Schenectady, Amsterdam and Utica market. Rock dosen't work in that area.
